I purchased a Mac for the first time a few days back and am having a difficult time getting used to it and am considering selling it and going back to an IBM PC (I know, I know).
I bought a very top end system and nothing is wrong with it but I am swamped with work and the learning curve is really slowing me down so if I didn't take an enormous hit on what I spent I may part ways with it.
Here is what I have:
Power Mac G5 - Dual 2 GHZ processor
2.5 Gig Ram
23" Cinema Display
Microsoft Office
Adobe Photoshop
Everything else is completely stock on the PC. I also bought the 3-year Apple Care protection plan that is good through Valentines day of 2007.
I paid $7,500 for it and am looking to recoup the majority but don't expect to sell it for what I paid. I'll respond to any reasonable offer. I have the original boxes here and can ship however the buyer would like. I'm located in southwest Michigan if that helps.

apple's open box 'restocking fee' is about 10% so if the guy could sell it for less that 750 off his original purchase price, then he wouldnt be losing as much.
thats a bad a$$ set up and im sure id buy it if i had the cash, but im still paying off my 12" stock PB :-)

just return it within the 10 day period. with insurance and shipping costs to any buyers, you won't get much better than having to pay just the 10% re-stocking fee. and who knows how long before you find a buyer - what you've got is quite expensive, it's gonna be hard to find someone willing to "just buy" them.

he should've been given a pro card. A pro card should allow you to return it(even if opened) w/in 30 days for a full refund.
It's been awhile for me so things might've changed since then.

holy crap this is retarded.
not to offend you or anything but... what the hell were/are you thinking???
good luck selling it, though if you can drop 7500 on a comp then i don't really care if you make your money back. ****, i wish i could grab a machine like that. even being swamped with work... how could you justify selling that machine; will you never get caught up enough to sit down with this beautiful machine?
here's a tip: everyone should be cross platform. it comes in handy as you have discovered.
peace.

Not sure where you bought it from but the Apple Store has teh stock unit with 2GB memory and the 23" display at $5500. No way the software is worth $2000.
Good luck...

No offense, but what learning curve? What are you having trouble doing? Maybe we can help. What work do you do need to do on it?
Too bad Virtual PC isn't available for G5s yet. That would be a good temporary option. I don't know, if you have an old PC you can still use, or can afford a new cheapy PC for now...
Just me, but unless I was doing CAD work, I'd never give up a G5 for a PC. Especially not at that much of a loss. But that's just me.

Well, I can certainly see the $7500 price tag. I priced the whole thing out at the Apple Store and here is what I came up with:
Power Mac G5 Dual 2GHz $3,749.00 (with only 2GB ram)
Apple Cinema HD Display (23" flat panel) $1,999.00
APP for Power Mac (w/ or w/o display) $249.00
Adobe Photoshop CS $649.95
Office v.X for Mac Standard Edition $399.95
Thats $7046.90 without tax or the extra 512 meg of ram so I can certainly see how he came close to $7500.

It was $6600 plus tax which in Illinois was 8.75% to get to $7,260,and then I bought Photoshop and Microsoft Office for another $300 or so.
I called them and they did take it back just fine. Shipping it out today.

OK, so what you ought to do is wade in instead of diving. You can pick up a refurb lower-end G5 or PowerBook, and use it when you have time. Don't blow a big wad on the PC either, though. Just get the big workload out of the way using your most familiar methods.
You might find the idea of a PowerBook attractive. A portable machine is a good way to learn stuff, and you can carry it around. Take a look at the 12". You'll like the quality of workmanship and the compact size.
