My son pushed an unknown quantity of small paper tags (used on xmas presents) into the dvd drive. Now the drive doesn't work.
Any suggestions?
Or am I packing this up and sending it to Apple
?

I would probably just purchase a new dvd drive and install it myself. Is it currently under warranty?

Might be a good idea to send it to apple and have them take it out and see if any damage are made.

I don't think Apple warranty covers "accidental" physical damage somehow...
Just take the machine apart and the remove the optical drive - the gift tags will fall out.
Lots of instructions at ifixit.com.

Yeah first thing I would do is call Apple. I think theyd take care of you.
If it's gonna be any hassle then you might want to think of taking a look at it yourself.

I would agree with this. I think the people at your local Apple Store would be understanding if it is a two year old boy and it is only paper in the drive. :)

Thanks...
I am headed to my in-laws tomorrow and my father-in-law and his two sons like to take stuff apart - maybe we will attempt to open the case and see if they indeed do fall out...
We took the steering column apart on my wife's car last Christmas to fix a fussy turn signal.
Don't want to send it to Apple unless I have to, maybe this will work...

Pull the optical drive and dump the tags out . Instruction as stated can be found at ifixit.com to disassemble macbook.

Possibly try a very small pair of tweezers first? Be sure to keep them very straight though, you wouldn't want to damage anything!

Maybe if you took it to the Genius Bar they would be able to remove it?

Good thing a peanut butter and jelly sandwich won't fit there, but Ritz crackers will
Sorry for your mishap with your son. Hope you get it working soon.
