Suddenly my first generation phone doesn't show up in iTunes when I put it in the dock. And, yes, I also tried a direct connection via the cable. No dice.

Any ideas?

I'm not sure what that exactly means. Do you mean I should force restart the phone?

Shut it down. Hold Home and Power for ten seconds. Release Power while holding Home for an additional ten seconds. iTunes should open and you should be able to restore.

Yes, that worked. But I'm having to do a full restore, as well. Thanks for that!

So I went to a Genius Bar, and when he hooked my phone up to his Mac, I was able to restore the firmware. I came home, hooked it up to transfer my data, and the thing was a brick again. I changed cables, but nothing changed.

I suspected at that point that my iTunes program had somehow been damaged. So I called an Apple tech, we removed the current program and preference folder, reloaded and all was well.
