I was posting what hosting company I use in another forum but the link http://www.liquidweb.com/ shows up as http://www.anrdoezrs.net/click-3160356-10499691?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.liquidweb.com%2F%2F in the post.

I thought I had miscopied the address, but when I went to edit it, it was http://www.liquidweb.com/. None of the other addresses in the post were affected.

Any ideas?

It's the resulting of some tracking/referral software we are testing. There's nothing wrong with the post or with MacRumors, and the link will still go to the correct URL. I'm sorry if it concerned you.

That makes sense, but it doesn't go to the correct URL. It goes to web.com instead of liquidweb.com. Something must be wrong with the referral.

Dear Doctor.

Excuse me??

Does this mean that MR is gathering, and probably selling, info on links their members post??

No, it's an auto-affiliate-ing script that turns links into referral links. It should be transparent, but obviously not in this case. I've turned it off for now.

Looks like it's back on again. I don't know how the auto-generation end of the feature works, but dealmac has their referrals set up to go to internal links (dealmac.com links which then forward to the jdoucy.com, etc) so the referrals are more hidden/less apt to cause paranoia among those of us who are, well, paranoid. I nearly jumped all over a fellow member for spamming until I found this thread.

Sorry to resurrect this thread, but I just wanted to inform those who are paranoid of an easy way to identify where the link is pointing to, while using Safari.

In Safari, open the VIEW menu and select SHOW STATUS BAR. Now when there is a link, all you have to do is hover over it, and it will show where that link is pointing to in the status bar.
