What do you mean?
You're being very unclear.
How do they not work?

Ah.
Maybe the actual file was deleted.
Try re-downloading them.
Or maybe your iPod's full.

Are you using iTunes or doing it directly on your iPod?
And is your iPod jailbroken?

how are they not working? what happens when you press the app icon? does it load up but then immediately jump back to the home page?

(have you tried re-booting too?)

Either try restarting your iPod or doing it through iTunes.

It may also be because of the Wi-Fi network, I know that when I try to install apps on some of my school network it won't work, but will when I do it on my home network.

It's when he is installing it, not trying to boot/launch it.

sounds fundamentally fooked then. how about a factory re-set and firmware upgrade to get things working properly again?

He may not have to do that.
He's doing this directly from his iPod, I've had errors when trying to install apps too.

This happens to me too! It says something like "Authorization failed, connect to iTune". I tried to download stuff from apps from both with and without iTune, still doesnt work!

for clearer answer..original poster needs to be more detailed.....not sure what advice can give by " half of apps wont work"....

just by going by odds...if half of the apps arnt working then the prob is with the ipod itself..(maybe wifi issue)....if app works for ipod touch..it should work with either generation.."
