I'v recently started using my macbook in clamshell mode connected to a tv, I have also noticed that I am now recieving very weak wifi signals from my router, could this be due to the fact that the lid on my macbook is now closed?

The wifi antenna is in the toplid, around the LCD. So, closing the toplid could have an effect on reception.

it's on the right side of the top lid, running next to the lcd, you might have something interfering with the connection?

The antenna wires coming from the mini airport wireless card is actually soldered to the right and left side of the LCD frame.
