This is terrible news, but it was bound to happen.
Some PC manufacturer copied the G5s design.
This is the ultimate rip-off (http://www.nokytech.net/actualites/3671.html)
Let the cursing commence :p
Edit: The PC makers site is not available, got possibly /.-ed. I will attach one here for you to behold.

I cannot believe the cheek of these people! Surely Apple Patented their design? Copyrighted or whatever. They simply cannot do this!
Well Afterall.. it's missing the most important thing... the Apple Logo.
Love my G5 :p

I am not sure if its really possible to patent the design. And its not a real one to one copy. From my perspective its not as nice as the G5.

Yes it is.
And Apple sued companies in past for copying designs. For instance eMachines was sued for an iMac rip-off.
The first two towers are so obviously copied from Apple that Apple would easily win a lawsuit.
The third model is different. And personally, I think it looks awesome.

The third model is different. And personally, I think it looks awesome. Those cases are sufficiently different from Mac cases to avoid confusing the buying public about their Apple origins or lack thereof. The major threat of lawsuits to these vendors will come from their customers when those things roll off their desks and crash onto the floor.

How can you patent a space heater design from the 50s? they all look just as good as apples which isnt saying much. 3rd one is slick. I still find it interesting how Mac zealots think only what apple does is correct and everyone else is crap even if its the same. They all look just as good or better in my view.

These threads always make me laugh. Anything Apple does good, anything done by another company, bad. I'm convinced Steve Jobs could get on stage at an Expo and poop on a plate and the zealots would eat it up, so to speak.
Oh yeah, one more thing. iPoop
Then again, the "pro" users would cry that they need a pro version, PowerPoop.

If you're gonna post the ever-so-popular "Mac zealots like everything Apple do and hate everything else" sentiment, please at least try to find an appropriate thread. This PC manufacturer just very very obviously ripped off the G5 design and to complain about it has zero to do with being an Apple zealot.

While it's obvious that they copied from Apple, Apple should learn from them and put more optical drives in their next Powermac.

imitation is the best form of flattery, who cares if the design got copied, it just means apple is once again ahead of the curve, which is a good thing

While it's obvious that they copied from Apple, Apple should learn from them and put more optical drives in their next Powermac. Yes, there isn't even a 2nd door on the G5, and the QuickSilver's 2nd door is specifically designed to house an Iomega Zip Drive (waste) and cannot easily be converted to hold a 2nd half-height drive. The brace that holds the two drive boxes would have to be substantially modified. Rats!
APPLE, we want dual doors for real size drives! ...and racing wheels too.
Racing Cases - Mac vs. PC
I LOVE IT!
Dual now, the "new" Quadra next, eventually G5 V8 cluster under one hood. Zoooom!!!

Hey, you guys missed the safety factor designed into the 1st two boxes. What else would a PC manufacturer install a Floppy Disk Drive into the case except to hold s floppy disk suitable for using as a chock under the wheels to keep it from rolling! How dumb can we be - it's brilliant!
And, did anyone use Sherlock to translate what the website reporting on the 3 boxes said in French?
News towers Lian-Li Lira comments
Here new range of turn made by the célébre manufacturing
Lian-Li; it is frankly superb and I have like the impression that
Lian-Li tried to be more "insane-insane" that usually for these turns.
This new series of case will be with format ATX like with the future
format, the BTX (but not, it is not the last wb from DangerDen). It
acts of the range V2000 and V2100.
How about going directly to the Manufacturer?

I think our LEGS HAVE BEEN PULLED. The G5 immitation design is NOT real.
Here is the reality:

The images provided of the G5 look alike are obvious Photoshop/Illustrator type images, not photos of something real. Are the images of real prototype drawings? Who knows. More of reality though:

Want to see the REAL Aluminum boxes from Lian-Li manufacturing, all of them?
Go directly to the Manufacturer's website.

What's not there is the front and back panels with tiny holes to make them look like a G5. Not there, folks! Looks like we've been fooled with a 3-D concept drawing.
Possible? sure.
Probable? no.

However this case looks pretty poor, and I wouldn't buy one. Those wheels :confused:WTF:confused:

I smell a lawsuit over this one. I have to agree, the first two are so obviously an Apple rip off. Interesting how just a little design shift can take a great design (G5) an make it look like it got hit with an ugly stick.

You can fit a second drive in the G5 there is no space due to it needing alot of cooling. But with the new FX version of the chip it may not need as many fans at the current G5s and in that case a second drive may be added.

lian-li is possibly the best PC case manufacturer...nobody else can design anything that looks/is remotely useful and beautiful...

btw, sometimes its nice to have a rolling case :D especially when the computer weighs a ton and you're like me (you cant lift **** ) :p

... sometimes its nice to have a rolling case :D Yeah, it's got super access, not crowded like standard HP, Delli, Gatewoodie, Compacted, or other brands. Lian-li's basic internal design pre-dates the G5.
I wouldn't be at all surprised if Apple spends more money on its cases than anyone other major manufacturer (save IBM) and Apple has steadily imporved. I absolutely love the design of my 2002 Quicksilver dualie, and am loathe to giving it up even for a dual G5. Maybe 3rd G of G5...maybe! Hopefully by then tower cases will be built with a fully functional Double Door to accomodate a 2nd Laser Drive; the QS 2nd drive box is specifically designed to house much smalleer Zip drive. Kind of interested to see where the frame design of the next generation of Cinema Displays will lead us...:p

If the designs is different on 5 different things, it is not a copy. Legally.
Everybody with commen sense sees it is a complete ripoff.

I absolutely love the tacky-outrageous gall of some companies. I once saw a Packard Bell in the window of Dixons that was a vague image of the new iMac, but this Powermac copy does take the crown.
I think it's the wheels that does it for me, making it look as though it's a air-hostess trolley.
Good effort guys, that's evidence of some excellent brainstorming in action you have there - everyone spending all day discussing, drawing, arguing, re-drawing, and then at 4:55pm deciding on copying what someone else has done and put wheels on it. ;)

I agree. It also means that Apple will have to keep innovating to stay ahead of said curve and keep people looking. It's a mixed blessing!

You cannot patent a design (although you can patent innovative mechanical features of a design). The earlier lawsuits against eMachines revolved around the principle of Trade Dress--basically, the claim was that their clones looked so much like an iMac that a reasonable individual would suffer confusion as to which was the genuine Apple product.

The width is probably smart to avoid tipping over, but the length sucks.
I still like the Dr.Bott made-for-Mac wheelsl though the $129 price is a bit steep - ah, what the heck is $130 for "wheels" on a $3,000.00 G5, right? But at that price it really should have a wirelessly activated electric motor with batteries...imagine it rocking back and forth in time to an iTune. ;)
Might as well kick in $75 for the "roof" too.

Didn't know that Dr.Bott more than makes stuff (like the 2 wireless antennae for the Apple AirPort Extreme)
but his (like Dr.Bott is a real person, as if...?) website is a veritable warehouse of 3rd party Macintosh products from all kinds of manufacturers. Awesome list of stuff, like everything Mac but an Apple.

I dunno dude, judging from what this person considers a great G5 caddy I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't know what Formica™ is! I wonder if he genuinely thinks he's got a winner here. If he does, I sure feel sorry for him. I mean, that's something I'd expect under an old 486, not a G5. Too funny. :D
