iOS Add a new field to an AddressBook entry?

I need to attach a bit of data, probably just a string, to the AddressBook. Is it possible to do so, and add a line for it that appears in the iPhone system's Contacts list that can be easily edited?

Looking at the Address Book Programming Guide for iPhone and the ABAddressBook Reference, it doesn't appear that you can but I would check out those sources in more depth to be certain.
