The one area that I am the least proficient is photography and video. I've noticed in both iMovie and iPhoto that duplicates are created in other files. I'm guessing that if these programs do it, then others must do the same thing.

Is there an app that will scan your HD for useless duplicates and allow you to delete them? I've seen a number of programs that show you where your larger files are, but that doesn't tell me if it's useless data that I can delete. I'm looking for something that can identify garbage.

Also, are there better apps to handle and organize photos for the amateur? One that won't gum up my HD with zillions of dupes?

Drive Genius is a great app to find duplicate file among many other drive utilities. Unfortunately, it's not freeware but sometimes you can find it on sale.
