Does a 19" external LCD display work well with a 2.1MB

Hi.
I've wanted to add another display to my 13inch MB one, and was considering on buying a 19" LCD monitor. My concerns are that there might be LCD displays that are not compatible with my MB, and I could end up with a bad LCD to connect my MB to (as an external display).

Most definitely would appreciate it if someone could guide me into the type of LCD screen I should purchase (17"-19", or others), and tell me the types of screens MacBooks support as external displays?
