View Full Version : Which GPS do you guys use?
Anyone have a GPS in their car? I'm in the market to buy one as I will be traveling quite a bit for the next 4 months about 150 miles from where I currently live. I like how the Garmin 205 and 255W look. I'm not too familiar with any other brand. Anyone have first-hand advice?

TomTom 130 that I bought early last year for $149. Works just fine with the software on OS X.

I have the Garmin nüvi 200. Love it to death. I'm directionally impaired, so I use it all the time. :o

I have the one and only GPS device made by Apple: iPhone.
Ok, I lied, I don't have the only GPS device made by Apple. That would be the 3G.
I have the first gen.

Settled on a TomTom 910 some years back after testing out a few.
I use a Garmin 430 most of the time.

I have a Magellan 2000. Its a few years old, but it works great. One thing I really like about Magellans, is that when entering addresses, unneeded letters will blank out so you don't mistakenly hit one.

I had the Garmin 200W for 2 months. It was great in recalculating routes, very bright and easy to read. Easy UI but very slow start up. I just use the Google maps on the iPhone now that I got a car charger.

Built in one that comes with a 2007 Infiniti G35 coupe.
Whatever that one is. Ha.
Currently a Garmin nuvi 880, replaced a Zumo 550. GPS receivers probably will get replaced about as often as laptops, given how rapidly the technology improves (and how expensive the freaking map updates are by themselves).

I have a Magellan Maestro. It's pretty good, easy to use, the voice is kind of annoying, but over all its not too bad.
Our Touareg and Land Rover have stock navigation. The Land Rover's is good, the Touareg's is horrendous.

I got my dad a garmin nuvi 205. He's not the kind of person who usually like messing around w/ small electronics but he loves it. Can't stop playing w/ it actually! its pretty easy to use too

Magellan 1412. Works pretty well, though it'll take you through some odd routes looking for the "shortest distance."

Thanks for all the replies everyone! I went out this morning and bought the Garmin Nuvi 205W. It works wonderfully. Again, Thanks! :D

I'm a little late to the party, but I use a Garmin GPS V for work. Old school for sure but it's rugged and gets the job done. I find that a few places in the maps are a bit less then accurate, though.

I have a TomTom One which has terrible maps.
I also have a Magellan Roadmate 1200 which is the worst device I have ever owned, but I got it for free. If you want to read my review of it follow this link:

I like my TomTom much better, but I would buy a Garmin over it in a heartbeat.

I had a Nuvi 350 which was awesome. I replaced that with a Garmin eTrex Vista HCx which is even more awesome because I use a GPS for a lot more than just driving. My favorite however is the Garmin G1000.

I bought a TomTom One XL as my first GPS at Christmas and the maps are about 20 years old  That's unacceptable, I'm not sure if other brands suffer from the same problem.

That's the only way to go haha. I'll never buy a portable GPS unit, I just can't stand them. If I want to put GPS in my car, I'll do it the 'right' way and go in-dash. So much nicer in my opinion.

Garmin Streetpilot 2720 w/XM and traffic - Used it in Spain and Portugal without a hitch. Tried a Tom Tom but it wasn't as good.
iPhone GPS is good on foot but not in the car, an external antenna would help I'm sure...

Just picked up a box new 255w off eBay which will arrive tomorrow. I have a 760 from Costco but it's going back; I don't need the Bluetooth and other non-GPS features and instead opted for the newer interface and what should be better GPS signal lock on plus some better compatibility with Google Maps.

I won a Garmin Nuvi 760 today at the GWAVA conferance in Las Vegas. It was one of the exact GPS units that I was looking at getting. I can't wait to get home and start using it.
