Ok, so I have a lacie d2 Quadra HDD, have done for a while and it works great, but I'd like to disable the blue light on it. It serves no purpose to me and sleeping in the same room with that on, well I'm sure you get the idea.

Anyways, does anyone know how to do this, bar breaking it or using black tape? Is there a terminal hack around?

I'd really appreciate it if anyone could tell me.

sorry but you got your answer already : "bar breaking it or using black tape"

No terminal hack will take care of that I am afraid

Duct tape fits in with the aluminum case look a bit better. It's pretty opaque too. Or you could open the drive case up and detach the leads to the light... or you could angle the front of the drive into a stack of papers and books like I have, so it's not visible. :)

If you decide to open up the case, then cover up the white thing in the middle of the frame of this photo.

ok, thanks for your help guys. I discovered that with it being low down where it is now (I just rearranged everything) I don't get much of the blue light effect. I like the idea of taping over the light inside though. May look into that.
