I got my 2.0ghz aluminum macbook a little over a month now and I just recently notice a humming noise from the fan (rpm ~2000). This is my first macbook and I wonder if this is normal? (should I bring it in to Apple store and let them have a look?)

I've got the fan hum as well. I wouldn't worry about it

Completly normal.
Crank up that fan with iStat and you'll think your in the middle of a hurricane. ;)

I guess my macbook is not as quiet as it used to be. Thanks for the fast reply!

I bought my MB alum a day or so after the keynote announcing them and my fan still doesn't make any type of hum when idle. The fan is fairly easy for Apple to replace if yours starts to bother you.

Set your fan to about 2000rpm and sit in a quiet room.
You'll hear it.
I can hear mine at very low speeds if I listen hard enough.

I don't know if I just lucked out and got an extremely quiet Macbook 2.0, but with my notebook on my desk right now and with my head about 2 feet away sitting in a chair in a quiet room the only noise this machine makes is when the hard drive is accessed. It's not for lack of hearing either, as under 1 feet away I can hear the intel processor whine when it switches power saving states.

Well, I'm assuming this hum is just the sound of the fan ocillating and not an actual hum.
I can hear mine with the TV on.
Hm.
It's not running hot, so I'm fine with it!

use a windows laptop and listen for noises. now THOSE are noises. macs are completely silent compared to them. every time you click something you can hear those things thinking

I hear a very faint hum. But the room has to be dead silent for me to be able to hear it.
