We have around 60 imacs running OS 10.5.5. Users authenticate against a Novell server via LDAP. The 'record types and attributes' box in 'search and mappings' in the LDAP directory utility have been set up by another technician. I am used to working with AD, no real experience with Novell, nor mapping attributes in the LDAP settings. Our problem is very slow authentication. When 1 user logs onto the network it takes about a minute, when 2 users log in about 2 minutes, 3 users - 3 minutes and so on.

I know that DNS issues can cause slow authentication, but I am really stumped. I should also point out that our users are cross platform, Windows and Mac, but Windows authentication via Novell client is fine. Can anyone think of anything I can try to resolve this? MJ

Novell is probably the problem. All the public schools around here use it. Their networks are so slow they are close to useless.
