I'll be selling my Macbook to a co-worker in a few weeks. She asked me to keep the applications intact so she wouldn't have to re-install them. If I create a new user in her name and delete myself thereafter, would that preserve the applications and erase my personal data?

I did the same thing with my MacBook Air for my boss last week. Granted, i barely had anything on it because it was my back up laptop (which is why i sold it) but i figured it was much easier to just reinstall and have everything in her name than try to remember what information i had on it.

If you want you can reinstall, install some applications she might need, and then reset the machine so that it runs the first startup stuff again and creates a new user account.
