Who uses SSL in email accounts?

I'm just having trouble configuring my email accounts, and am wondering what SSL is, how compatible it is with macs, and why my mac won't accept the CPanel auto-config files. I can download the script files but can't install.

SSL is just secure connections. Wikipedia has a nice write-up. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secure_Sockets_Layer) I've never had any Mac incompatibilities related to SSL that I can remember. I don't know about your CPanel though, never dealt with it.
