someone in another thread said the political forums were getting a little dull, so here's a story relating to sex ed, conservative texans, and planned parenthood. enough hot buttons there?

story (http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20040303/ap_on_re_us/cookie_boycott)

The youngsters receive a book with chapters on homosexuality and masturbation, as well as illustrations of couples having sex, people examining their naked bodies and a boy putting on a condom.

Some Girl Scout mothers called it soft-core porn.

"It embarrassed me to look at it with my husband," said parent Shannon Donaldson.
So the local girl scout troop has been disbanded and boycotted because they are associated with planned parenthood, and during an annual conference, receive materials on sex education from from them. I guess parents in Texas would rather have their kids learn about sex the old fashioned way, in the back seat of a car.

The quote above makes me wonder about these people. The lady is embarrased to look at clinical drawings with her husband? That's kinda weird. What exactly is it she's ashamed/afraid of? It's not exactly Hustler. If she can't handle materials routinely distributed to twelve year olds, it makes me wonder how she managed to have a kid in the first place.

Pro-Life Waco director John Pisciotta, an economics professor at Baylor, the world's largest Baptist university, said his call for a cookie boycott "was a way to bring attention to the issue and wasn't really about cookies."

Typical ivory-tower campus conservative.

One girl scout troop does not equal all of Texas parents.

Don't generalize like that.
