This will be the last favorite thread I do, but after listening to itunes its time to ask the question of what is your favorite album of all time. For me it is what i think is by far the best album in history, Pink Floyd's The Wall. Now if you dont have an all-time favorite than what are you currently listening to now. but please no Outcast. Personally I like the new Nickelback.

Good choices, all of 'em. Mezzanine is a vanguard album, IMHO.
That said, here's my five:
1. The Cure - Disintingration; Pet Sounds production for 80's kids.
2. The Smiths - The Queen is Dead; Defining album of the 80's as far as songwriting goes.
3. Stereolab - Mars Audiac Quintet; The Smith's fan's new age music. Hehe.
4. Massive Attack - Mezzanine; Pulling Liz Fraser out of retirement = brilliant move
5. My Bloody Valentine - Loveless; Easily the BEST album of the 90s.

There is no such thing as a best album ever, it's like have the best painting, or best dinosaur or best kitchen untensil.
But despite saying that here are a list of albums I have strong positive feelings for:
Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here
Frank Zappa - Hot Rats
The Beatles - Rubber Soul
Velvet Underground & Nico - Velvet Underground & Nico
Captain Beefheart - Trout Mask Replica
Sex Pistols - Never Mind The Bollocks

I was going to point that out, but chose to refrain - particularly when you look at the rather clichéd list of albums I suggested.
Problem is that 'Best ofs' must stand the test of time, and what's good around today, and there is plenty of good phat sounds that beats my drums out there, will be rather lame in a couple of years time, and all-out embarrassing in about 5.

I got into rock'n roll kind of late. My parents listened to Kenny Rogers, Forest Whittaker, and Neil Diamond so I was thrilled to finally discover Led Zeppelin in my early teens. Then Metallica and Guns and Roses. It went on from there.
Loved the Grunge era. My favorite album from that era in the '90s was Temple of the Dog. Great Album before there was ever Pearl Jam or SoundGarden.
Rock is kind of lame nowadays. I think Nickeback is a good band. Nothing great. I liked Days of the New and the current band Tantric. Different sound.
Alice in Chains though in my opinion was THE epitome of Grunge. The greatest Grunge band that there was in my opinion. I have their greatest hits compilation and listen to it regularly in my car. Nothing like cranking "Man in the Box" on a sunny day and just cruising. Feel like a total young punk again.

in defense of Outkast, i thought stankonia was rather innovative -- and let's not forget, they are two-time grammy winners. (and yes, i know winning a grammy doesn't mean you are objectively 'the best,' but they've gotta count for something.) 'hey ya,' however, is way overplayed and not even the best track on the album.

in the early 70s, i loved my glenn miller album/single which had the hit chatanooga choo choo
in the mid 70s, i worshipped my john denver greatest hits album
in the late 70s, my favorite album was kiss alive II
in the early 80s, i liked the go-go's beauty and the beat
in the mid 80s, i liked the bangle's all over the place debut
in the late 80s, i didn't have a favorite but listened to many forms of music and i liked heavy metal guitar solos until i discovered seattle grunge
in the early 90s, i liked the indigo girl's debut album so much that after ten years of being an exclusively electric guitarist, i became an acoustic guitarist and songwriter for a couple of years
after that, i never listened that much to any one album over and over and today i still like rock and roll, folk, bebop jazz, opera, etc...

The Seattle scene was really good. Probably the last true "scene" the modern rock world has seen since. I think it died an early death due to commercialization and too many no-talent acts jumping on the bandwagon and just copying other bands' sounds. A few of the greats, like Pearl Jam and Soundgarden, are still putting out good music, but I wonder whatever happened to the likes of Mudhoney or Screaming Trees and the like?
Actually, hasn't Alice In Chains fallen off the map, too? Too bad, because I agree they were among the best of the grunge scene.
If you have never heard their EP called "Sap" I urge you to check it out immediately...

But I do still have some favorite albums, where every track is good.
Most are old:

-Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here & The Wall

-James Taylor - One Man Dog & Mud Slide Slim

they broke up years ago and then two years ago their lead singer Layne Staley died. i went and saw Jerry Cantrell in concert just after Staley's death and Cantrell was upset about it and turned the concert into an Alice in Chains revival of sorts and played the whole set as Alice in Chains minus a few of his own songs which was really cool to see.

Lateralus by Tool!
Unbelievable musicianship, incredible riffs, and the most soulful, thought-provoking lyrics (and lyricism) I've heard. That man has one unbelievable voice, and each member of the band is an absolute MASTER at their instruments. Put together, this is in my opinion the finest single album ever made, from the first time you glimpse the multi-layered translucent cover to the last burst of static in "Faaip de Oaid"... pure, uncompromising beauty.

I listen to Sonic Youth! "Daydream Nation" would have probably made my top 10, but I only posted a top 5. I prefer their earlier, harsher work to their poppier output of the early 90's. "Daydream Nation" is by far my favorite album of theirs, but "Evol" and "Sister" are also great (I can't count how many times I've played "(I Got A) Catholic Block"). I have a CD player alarm clock, and I often times use either "Daydream Nation" or "Dirty" to wake up to. Their body of work truly is spectacular.
I also have the "SYR-5" album, which is Kim Gordon with Ikue Mori and DJ Olive. It's not musically great, but can be pretty amusing to listen to sometimes, due to Gordon's silly, pointless lyrics.

Only disagreement I can come up with is that possibly Aenima or Undertow would have it beat, if only I hadn't been listening to them everyday for how many years now? and I've yet to reach that 10,000th time yet w/Lateralus!

Sorry to sound like a pedant, but the thread was asking for "favourite album ever" or "what you are listening to right now", so your list is either saying that the 1 album by Tenacious D is equally good to the entire works of Pink Floyd, or you are simultaneously listening to 23 artists at one time!

Only disagreement I can come up with is that possibly Aenima or Undertow would have it beat, if only I hadn't been listening to them everyday for how many years now? and I've yet to reach that 10,000th time yet w/Lateralus!
Well, Aenima certainly has some incredible songs (I'm not a huge fan of Undertow.. it's good, but it's not the same), but it also has a lot of filler: Die Eir, Ions, etc... and I HATE "Hooker with a Penis".. you have no idea how much I hate that song... so I don't know. Lateralus is just flawless, like nothing about it I would ever want to change (except maybe making "Ticks & Leeches" a little less angry, but it's not that big of a deal)... and Aenima, in my mind, is absolutely astounding but certainly improvable... so for that, I say Lateralus is the best :)
Have you had the problem of trying to find something else to listen to besides TooL and finding that nothing else is as good? It's so frustrating :P Perfect Circle is great, though, but it's really annoying that there's like no other band doing what Tool/APC do to the level that they do it...

My favorite entire CD from the 80's was Cindy Lauper- She's so unusual
I think she has a new album out. I have no idea if it's any good. I like her music, also. "Money" comes to mind.

My Fav album is Girlfriend by Matthew Sweet, but there are so many choices for 2nd and 3rd I wouldn't know where to begin.
BTW I'm listening to my iPod right now the song is "The Message" by Grand Masterflash. Remember that one?
:)
All I remember is Puff Daddy taken the beat and makin that song 100 times hotter than the orignal. ;) That's a good record.
Props to angrylawngnome for saying Kanye West.
And Macnut Aquemini by Outkast, was one hot record. New stuff, not hot, but thats another issue.
Favorite Record? Life after death -Notorious B.I.G.
Right now listening to Puffy's Ill be missing you.
We miss you BIG.

So many albums... So little space:
NIN - The Downward Spiral
Rage Against The Machine - Self Titled
Nirvana - Nevermind
Gomez - In Our Gun
Dead Kennedys - Frankenchrist
Clutch - Self Titled
The Tragically Hip - Road Apples
Too many favourites, but those are probably the ones that come to mind first.
