i am trying to import some episodes of the tv show 24, so i can make a video of some of the scenes, and every time i import a video nothing shows up at the bottom of the screen, it says no matching videos.

is there a way to convert the downloaded episodes to a format that imovie will use?

in handbrake what setting do i use?
and in quicktime pro what settings do i use?
file -> export -> movie to quicktime
just use the default settings.. (assuming you haven't messed with them previously)
