Transporting Macbook Sleep or Shutdown?

I was just wondering what the recommended method of transporting my macbook is? If I am going to use it at home connected to charger and then take it to class to use on battery, should I fully shut it down and start it back up when I get to class? Or should I just close the lid? Does closing the lid put the computer to sleep or just shut the display off? Also what about if I am taking the computer to use at the office where I will charge it?

Closing the lid sleeps the mac, and sleep mode will shut down your hard drive, so transporting the macbook either way won't harm the computer at all.

Up to you really. I take my macbook to school shut down, then from class to class keep it on sleep mode. Sleep mode uses a little bit of battery, but you avoid the annoying chime at the beginning of every lesson:p
