Guys, after the MacWorld announcement, I am seriously considering a new MBP 17". However, I see the machine lacks a FW400 port.

I have a question about that. I use a Canon HV20 HDV camera to film semi-professional news reports. The said camera uses FW400 to export HDV videos to the computer.

If I buy a new MBP, can I use a 400 to 800 adaptor port to import HDV video?

All you need is a 800-400 cable. The 800 port can do 400.

FW800 is a faster cable than FW400. Therefore, it can transfer at a slower rate. However, since 400 is slower than 800, 400 can not do 800 at the 800 speed. That's why 800 was released. Like how a race car can go 20 MPH and 200 MPH. A Toyota Camry can go 20 MPH but not 200 MPH.
The adapter is about $15 here. (http://www.sonnettech.com/product/fw_adapter.html) I don't know if or where you may be able to find it cheaper.
