Email Help -- Touch 2G Email Application

All of a sudden I can't delete any emails from the mail app on my iPod touch second gen. I have it set up with my aol email account. When I choose edit>delete for an email, it disappears, then reappears win a message saying "unable to move message, the message could not be moved to the mailbox trash". Why is this?
