I just got my mba and notice that there is a big gap between the aluminum border and the screen. As if the the aluminum is bent outwards from the screen. And I have a dead pixel.:mad:

Still within the 14 day period and was wondering what are my chances for a replacement. Since I purchased from apple store online, can I go to my local apple store for replacement? I rather deal with this in person than over the phone and deal with the shipping hassle.

I HAVE THE SSAME THING FOR MY IBOOK but unfortunately i didnt buy it new. if you have a missing pixel you MOST DEFINITLY need to get it replaced. any ordinary apple notebook isnt made with a gap and a dead pixel. take it in to the store and tell them the deal!

I am going to go down there again and look at the MBA screens.

I can definitely see a black border around my screen before the bezel. Is this normal?

Yea sorry I'm talking about the aluminum bezel being deformed.

I doubt apple will replace for only 1 dead pixel but the deformed bezel along with the dead pixel will hopefully be enough for a replacement. Fingers crossed.

Yes, any kind of extra deformity as well as the 14 day thing should easily get you a replacement, if they don't seem to willing at first, point out the dead pixel, and if they're still hesitant, ask for the manager. That should hopefully get you the replacement you deserve.

in my experience, asking for a manager after talking to a genius who inspects your machine rarely does any good...

to be honest, your best bet is to call 1-800-APL-CARE and talk to a customer service representative or an applecare tech....have them write up a report and give you the case number....THEN make a genius bar appointment with the applecare or CS number in hand....a genius is much more likely to swap something that has already gone through the 'proper' chain of command and that already has a 'case' made for it than a random new machine off of the street ;)

ALso, it makes the decision for the genius alot easier if he already has Applecare or CS backing up the swap....

Not sure why everyone here is making the return to be more complicated than it really is. It's within 14 days, so you bring it in, show the receipt, tell them you changed your mind and they refund 100%. No genius, no manager needed. ... oh and small talk usually helps :D

Sad to hear this kind of bad quality control still takes place. And I am convinced there are many more MBA's out there with imperfections in the case, but I guess most of the users just don't care or don't even see it.

It took me over 5 MBA's to get a decent one, but even this one had Dent's and imperfections right out of the box.

They should replace it though! My first MBA had dent's and one dead pixel and they replaced it without any difficulties.

The Apple service was always more then great to me, but I feel QC should be much better so this kind of things don't happened at all!

That won't really work as Apple charges a 10% restocking fee on open units. But definitely talk to them, they are usually willing to do replacement units, especially for physical deformities, within the first 14 days. After that, they will repair it.

Is this your experience? I've returned 4 MBAs full 100%. Any issues, take it to another Apple store.

It's not just my own experience, but the official policy as outlined by Apple. Managers can waive the restocking fee at their discretion, but do not have to.

The OP's screen bezel is damaged during manufacturing, Apple is not going to charge him for a defective exchange however they won't exchange it at the retail store, the OP will have to send it back to Apple for an exchange but they are really fast.

which is why he should call applecare first, have them make the case...with the applecare reference number they CAN swap it at the store immediately

Thanks for the reply guys. I'm getting a replacement for it now. I couldn't exchange at the store so I have to ship out my old one and wait for the replacement since mine was an online order.

I guess the combination of both because I mentioned both issue to the genius. But i have to say it was the defective bezel that did it because apple won't replace a computer for 1 dead/stuck pixel.
