Can an AppleTV be bought anywhere and used anywhere else or is there any regionality? I want to buy an AppleTV in the US and use it in the UK - will there be any problems playing content bought on the US store in the UK or vice-versa?

No problems

You can use it wherever and buy what you want. No regions. No problems. I am speaking from experience. I have used/ bought and played Apple content and Apple TVs in Italy Australia US and UK.

You do need to set up accounts though.

I bought mine in Canada and Use it in Rome as well, with no problems. I was very happy that it is 110-220V.

You will find is that content is restricted in iTunes to the country your credit card is registered.

i.e, you cannot buy off US iTunes site with UK CC.

does not mean to say you cannot play the stuff, just not buy it.
