Rev a. VS Rev b

What is the big differeance, is the rev a got any problems and does it have illuminated keyboard

REV A:
- prone to overheating/core shutdown
- chokes/stutters on video playback, mainly HD and Flash
- 144MB intel on-board shared video memory
- ILLUMINATED KEYBOARD

REV B:
- doesn't overheat/ no core shutdowns
- smooth video playback, although Flash still stutters occasionally
- 256MB nvidia video memory, shared
- ILLUMINATED KEYBOARD

When REV A were first introduced these were symptomatic, but with new releases of flash and OSX these issues are less apparent.

how much less aparent?

my hp goes from 100 to 120 degrees and shuts off at 123

and the is damn hot on my lap and its only plastic,im worried about this now and cores shuting down :(

I ask b/c I read that Rev A is a more netbook and Rev B is a primary computer but other than video memeory(which I dont use much) and Overheating(which has been reduced and ith Coolbook I should be fine) I cant find why it is a weaker opp

The big difference is that the RevB has the new NVidia chipset which includes MUCH faster integrated graphics and a faster bus speed. Oh, and the HDD version is SATA rather than IDE.

I went for a refurb RevA today because I just want it as a secondary laptop, I'd rather save a lot of cash buying the refurb because I don't need the RevB. Depends what you're going to use it for.

RevA is slower than RevB (B has faster memory, more powerful video, faster HD/SSD) but the basic feature set is the same - including backlit keyboard.

Some RevA's had problems with overheating and core shutdowns. Mine never had that problem and usually runs cooler than my MB or MBP or iMac.

Some RevB's have screen issues (faint lines on display)

RevA has plenty of power for most users doing everyday Office, Browsing, and email type things. Anything involving Video will cause the system to warm up and speed fan up but I have had any real issues with conventional resolutions (never do HD so I can't comment there). The only time I ever noticed performance issues was when I maxed out the slow HD throughput. So if doing an image backup or ripping a DVD, don't expect to do anything else at the same time without brief pauses/freezes/slowdowns

You should be able to see it in System Profiler - for the Serial ATA Controller.

Just wondering if it makes sense to stick an SSD in there with > 150MB/s read or write...

It is not a SATA connector. Don't buy it thinking you can replace the HD. Right now there isn't one current SSD for sale that will work with this machine.

The HD is 5v, 5mm thick and SATA-LIF. There isn't one HD with SATA-LIF right now for sale, let alone SSD.
