Alum. macbook on 30" monitor?

Yes, but you'll need the Dual-DVI converter cable unless the monitor has a mini-Display Port connection.
 
You should be aware that there have been issues reported with that converter (not an adapter - it is an active converter). There have been many reports that one of the links suddenly dies, or that the display becomes garbled. I would recommend that you check it out first.

I think you are wrong.

Do you have a link to this specification? That's the limit on the older Plastic Macbook. The new one has the same resolution support as the Pro.

Yeah, I just took a gander at the product reviews on the Apple site. Sounds like a nightmare. Guess I'll be sticking to a 24" for a while. 😱
