What is with the Demi-God Avatars?

I know ther was a thread about what does DGVPG stand for and how you cant know untill you become a Demi-God. But come on I liked your old Avatars. Everyone just looks the same at a glance now. Are we gonna have to guess what DGVPG stands for?

I must say I much prefered individual 'tars, and also when there wasn't this seeming divide between the regulars and the 'demi-gods'.

A demi-god status is acquired whenever you purchase something from the MR store, or make a donation. Its simply a promotion to help keep macrumors running. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

We know what 'demi-god' status is and how you get it, the thread was asking what was with the majority of the demi-gods having the same DGVPG 'tar.

It was a temporary thing....making 'tars quickly isn't easy. Every DGVPG member will have their own and in all honesty, it won't be around much longer anyway. So please relax.

And for your information, not all Demi-Gods are involved in the DGVPG, not all of them changed their 'tar, and even we didn't realize how much an effect it would have on the forums. We couldn't see who was posting in the private forum, you actually needed to read the names. That's what happens when you do things with the more prolific posters.

Its a truly amazing thing realizing how the human brain accesses information and recognizes shapes and pictures. Very cool actually.

And being a Demi-God is a great way to support the site, we're just having a little fun, ok?

Unfortunately I may not be able to become a demi-god for a while :(
One of my computers has had a massive HD failure and I'm going to end up spending a bit of money on it. I bought Drive X yesterday but that didn't help and I'm bringing it into a service center for diagnostics today. If they can't fix it I'll end up spending even more money on a new HD and data recovery.

I have np w/ I just get lost easily :)
And here goes another ur computer isn't as onld as mine- towards asurance, I have a 233 G3 Desktop so unless u have the bondi quit whining. U have no idea how often I have to wipe and reinstall.

there aren't that many conversations started in the private forum. only recently has there been any continuous action.

I have a 233 G3 Desktop with it maxed out at 196 megs of RAM and two monitors at work. It used to be my main computer until November of last year when I got the TiPB. Thankfully I had a G4 tower at home. It is a dog, I feel for you. I still have to use it because all the SCSI peripherals are still connected to it, slide scanner, flatbed scanner, etc.

I've been involved in sports since the 5th grade.
OK, I am a little pale from being indoors so much, but a couple days out in the sun and I get some good color.
I'm pretty muscular, but I'm not exactly "ripped" these days thanks to my desk job (6'4" 260lbs.)

though I agree with some of what you said I have to disagree with the demi-gods being "Elite".

The only thing that makes you a demi is to make a donation to help arn with the expenses of this webpage. ANYBODY can be a demi, with one post, doesnt matter...its not an attainable "level" in the posting sense...though it has its small perks :D

Well, I got my mug yesterday. My wife had it sitting next to my FP iMac when I got home. I felt the pride, as if it where a new born child. I was almost in tears. Well, not really. It is a cool mug though. I have to get one of the big silver ones, mousepad, clock. hell, I think I am going to go with the Macrumors remodeling effort at the pad. :cool:

Oh, I agree. I was just poking a little fun at ya. That is the problem today. People get offended at stuff that they should not be offended by. Example. Lets say we started that thread. Someone goes to it, and the first pic is offensive to them in some fashion. Now, instead of just leaving and saying "those guys are crazy or something like that" then first read ever post, download every picture. Print ever picture, check back for new pictures and posts, and then reports it to a mod so that it can be closed. See what I mean. he.he.he.

Fair enough, but you're not supposed to let the minority dominate the majority. I'm sure some people objected last time when pictures of fit women were posted (and the odd minger :p), but it still went ahead. I have no objection - either way to be honest.

btw: you said in the articles forum that you can play wolfenstein on your ibook. Is that correct? I tried installing it, but the screen cuts out and all i got was sound. (my tibook has 8MB VRAM, same as your ibook)

yea, I have ran the beta of it for some time. Just got my hands on the final, but have not played it yet. Tony Hawk rocks on the iBook, as does OttoMattic and the others. hell, even Alien vs. Preditor runs on it fine.

Ah... the public multi-player beta. That explains it. I'll warn you now then: the full version will not work on your ibook. The developers cocked up mid-way through development, and decided to make it unplayable on anything less than 16MB graphics cards. :mad:

Currently the only way to get an avatar if you haven't posted 500 is to win the Avatar Contest - which I think you entered. So you might get lucky....

And there is always next year, but by then you might be a lot closer to 500 any way.
