Hey,
Can anyone give me some advice?
I am about to upgrade an iMac from version 9.2.2 to OSX.
I need to be sure that i will not reformat or erase the drives as I am not able to back up any info at this time.
Is it as simple as pressing the 'install MacOSX' icon?
thanks in advance,
Eboy

p.s. I'm new here, so apologies if this has been answered a thousand times. I searched for the answer but could not find what I was looking for.

when you double-click the 'install mac os x' icon, your computer will restart. from the menu you find there, make sure you choose 'archive and install' or 'upgrade' (might be 'update')
since it seems you are somewhat less experienced, i would recommend you just 'upgrade' (might be 'update')

the above information is 99% accurate. i have never done the exact same thing as you, but i have upgraded from jaguar to panther.

If your machine is a G3 iMac, check to make sure the firmware is up to date before attempting and install / upgrade to OS X. Out of date firmware on some of the older imacs have been known to cause video problems that may or may not be fixable.
