If you have a desktop PC that has an ethernet port but no built wifi, can you attach a wireless router to the PC and join available wifi networks in the area? Or does the router itself need to have a wired feed?

(asking this question for a friend with a PC--sorry if it's slightly OT, but I know some of you will know the answer!)

Technically, yes. But a better way would be to either run a wire to the main router, or get one of those USB wireless plugs. Much easier way of doing it. Staples, Office Max, Best Buy, they all carry them. $50 +/-

Yes can be done. Using Airport Express N as expensive wireless card for my gaming computer.

If you have an extra router or the router is cheaper (or gets more signal strength) than a usb adapter.

Thanks guys. I have a spare wireless router, which is why I was asking. Appreciate the help! :)
