Is there any way to have to separate iTunes libraries accessible by one Mac? I do not just want to share the library since I would need full functioning libraries including iPod syncing.

press and hold the option key when starting iTunes (works for iPhoto as well). Two libraries duplicates storage though, so be aware.
Are you sure that well managed playlists wouldn't be a better option?
