Hotel setup Help

Would this work? Hotel only has a wireless connection. Could I download content to my macbook then directly connect my apple tv via ethernet from the back of the Apple tv to the ethernet port on my Macbook. Could I sync that way? Ive been researching this for hours but can't find out if that is possible or not. Thanks for all your help.

Ive done this before with a wired connection. I assume of works with wireless. Connect to the wireless network on your mac then share that connection (you'll have to google this, sharing airport connection or something). Then on your apple tv connect to the shared network and it should work

Im actually going to be in the hotel room actually a suite for six months and they have a 42 in plasma tv. So would rather watch on the big screen than the macbook.

That should work, connect to the hotel's wireless from your laptop, go to "sharing" in your control panel and go over to "Internet" as in the attachment here (from 10.4.11) -- and you can then turn off wireless in your Apple TV. (You would press "start" ...)

Doesn't the room have an ethernet socket somewhere? Sometimes in the side of the phone. THen you could just hook up the appletv directly, no?

I called and asked and the clerk at the desk said they only offered free high speed wireless internet.

Thanks for all the suggestions, I get my Apple TV in the mail weds. Will try the internet sharing with my home network before I depart on Saturday for my trip.

I'm very confident this works. I can't remember if I could sync content from my mbp to my appletv by doing this, but I know I was able to stream content.

If you're going to be in the same room (or at least the same hotel) for that long, you might as well buy a 802.11g/n router and set up your own network.

Any router will do, but they sell these so-called "travel routers" as well. Not sure if anyone makes a 11n travel router.

That way, you access the aTV without needing the Macbook around.

Two slight issues with that: no hardwired 'net connection as discussed in a previous post -- don't know of too many common routers that do wireless to wireless. For a "travel router" in a place with an ethernet connection, an Airport Express does nicely.

Secondly -- the AppleTV does just fine without a net connection if you're watching your own material that has already been synched to the apple TV, so he wouldn't even need to have it running all the time -- just when there's new stuff to synch or the OP wants to browse from the AppleTV...

the answer to the original question is definitely yes. this is what i do at home whenever i sync new content.

You're right on both points. I musta had a brain fart the other day and totally missed the "no ethernet" deal.

Thanks all got my Apple TV in a few days ago and tested everything out using my home wireless network and it works well. Now the only question will be how good the wireless connection will be in my suite :confused:

So, following up, the plan for the washington stay was to:
1-Connect to hotel wireless via enable internet sharing on MBP
2-Connect to MBP via Ethernet Cable
3-Up & Running

? is this; don't you have to use cross over ethernet cabling in this situation; or set up a mini network using an ethernet hub?

I am confused by the choices in contro panel l of sharing via ethernet or airport...

Is the logic that as a unit, apple tv can connect to my laptop wirelessly, then out to the internet via laptop connection (no cable required)....or am I hard wired into laptop, via ethernet to Apple TV, sharing on ethernet connection my MBP connection to internet? And if I am connected directly to my MPB with an ethernet cable to Apple TV, I am pretty sure this requires a cross over cable?
