Sooo... took my precious iPhone to the beach the other day in my bag - long story short it now has a multitude of small scratches on the screen from sand. Damn you, sand. What I'm wondering is if there is some sort of way to induce an issue in my phone which would require a) a totally new phone, or b) a new screen. Either is good :P
Yes, I understand that this is probably really stupid lol. I laughed myself when I first thought it up. But then I thought "damn thats crazy... so crazy, it just might work!"
Thanks in advance!:p

That's fraud, you ****ing scammer.
If your phone is so 'precious', why didn't you have a screen protector on it? Why did you take it to the beach?
You have two choices. Live with it, or pay FULL PRICE for a replacement.

the more noobs i see coming in these forums are just getting stupider and stupider think logically how in the world can you fake an issue and half a beaten up phone and think to get away with it plus, next time just bring it in a bag or case or leave it in the car and use your friends phone for a emergency

OP, no wonder Apple has to keep the price for iPhones so high, with all you scammers trying to get free iPhone replacements.

HAHAHA!!!
LOL!!!
What a MFScammer, anyway, you can maybe try to update the firmware of the phone and unpluging it at 1/2 the process maybe it gets stuck in something important and the phone wont work anymore!??
anyways what makes you think they will give you a BRAND NEW one!??, what if they give you a Refurbished replacement, that will suck, your going to give away yours (you didnt say, but maybe kinda new) for a USED who knows how and what treatment did the phone had on the previous owners hands!??
At least it doesnt convince me at all...

Sooo... took my precious iPhone to the beach the other day in my bag cause I'm an idiot - long story short it now has a multitude of small scratches on the screen from sand. Damn you, sand. What I'm wondering is if there is some sort of way to induce an issue in my phone or follow this advice which will destroy it which would require a) a totally new phone, or b) a new screen. Either is good :P

Alright everyone, there's no reason to be hostile with this one. Look, there is a way you can do it ... but you have to be sure that you want to replace it and you have to know that you're going to be without a phone on your way to the Apple Store if you do this, but here it is. First make sure your iPhone has a full charge and is on, and then take it out of any case you have and take off any screen protector you may have ( but I'm pretty sure you don't have one because of your post ), next you need to put it in the microwave for 30 SECONDS, NO MORE!! 30 Seconds is the perfect amount of time to overload the circuit board and fry it without doing any external damage, if you put it in there for more than 30 seconds the plastic external parts will start to melt. When you take it to the Apple Store tell them that you had your iPhone on an Apple dock for charging and when you took it off it felt extremely hot, you tried to turn it on and nothing happened.
The best part about this is that all the damage will be internal so they will not be able to see anything on the outside, secondly if they do decide to pull it apart while you're at the store ( which they rarely do ) the damage that appears inside will match your story.
And there you go, BRAND NEW iPHONE!!
Enjoy.

Either go to jail and turn yourself in for even thinking about this or just get out of our forum.

this cheered me up for the day! Enjoyed the post and the alternate comments.
ok so to reply to the OP for replacement, I totally agree that you shouldn't try to scam the system but then again, your not the first one to do so.
Couple of weeks back I was in the Apple store and a lady made an appointment with the genius and said 'my home button does not work! He tried it and said it works. She then goes and says, 'well it doesn't work sometimes and you have to press it really hard and eventually walked out with a replacement. After she left the genius folks were laughing away on the fact of what stories they have to go through.
btw I was in line to get a replacement case.. (powersupport black with chipped edges) :p

I'm thinking some people didn't sense my sarcasm ( or maybe my secret hope that some idiot would believe me and do it ). But please feel free to go back to my OP and see how I changed the original question in my quote. Enjoy

I got it and thought the quote changing was very funny! I was hoping that you or someone else would wait to post that your advice was a joke and someone would post pics or their fried iPhone!! There are too many people trying to scam Apple and/or AT&T on this forum and I am so disgusted and utterly sick of it. There is an even greater idiot here (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=635150). The thread was closed in a matter of a few day though. I got a few posts on it and some others really set the OP straight. He was trying to scam Apple out of a new iPhone, like here, because his warranty was up. He then suggested to himself the brilliant idea of using his friend's warranty. I guess his friends iPhone didn't come with a magic scam-proof number (serial number).

Haha, Yah ... I read that guys post and didn't even feel it dignified a response ( apart from the obvious fact that he was too dumb to understand that his damage wasn't covered in the first place ) ... There were some great responses on there, I love it! haha

LOL that microwave idea is epic.
How about just hooking up a car battery to it with jumper cables. I'd like to see a vid of that :)

Dead pixels is an issue that results in a replacement. Take it in to the Genius Bar.
