View Full Version : How to prevent artifacting with HB encodes? Especially animation DVDs

I'm trying to encode some DVD for my son to have on Apple TV. At the moment I've tried Spongebob Squarepants. Mac The Ripper first, then the ATV defaults in Handbrake.

Upon viewing the resulting files, it looks like there's artifacting present whenever there's fast movement on screen. In this one, its horizontal lines across whichever part of the image is moving fast at the time.

Is there any way to sort this out, am I doing something wrong in HB or MTR for example?

Thanks.

Try using just HandBrake.

Screen shot is from an older version. I find "fast" works for me and I rip tons of cartons for my kids.

What would that do? Its just I've finished doing Flight of the Conchords and episode 1 has artifacting while none of the other eps do?

Thanks very much, I'll check that out.

Detelecine + Decomb. Good luck.

I tend to find that setting the deinterlace setting to 'fast' seems to sort this problem when encoding animation.

... and ruins the quality. As stated above, detelecine + decomb should do the trick.
