I doubt most people do - i did not for a while.
However. Now that I am
a. using it for my studies and work
b. am in a better financial situation
i decided to buy it.
I do not care if people do not pay for it to be honest however if you use it professionally or if you can pay for it without having to skip buying food (extreme example) i do think people should.
I couldnt afford it but wanted to use it so i used it illegally. Now I can afford it so i bought a licence. fair enough i think?

Tbh i think thats pretty fair yeh, that you finally bought the key.

Hey guys I have a quick question for you and Id appreciate your help. Im currently using candybar to change my icons but when I try to change my the icons for "downloads" and "documents" in my dock it doesnt work. I notice that it only changes the icons for these folders when viewed in Finder. Am I doing something wrong?

I changed up a couple of icons (ie. iTunes to an iPhone - who uses CDs anymore? and iPhoto to a picture I took and my camera). All my icons are blueish, but I don't keep many on my dock. I just use quicksilver for everything, so my dock is kind of just decoration.

I have the transparent dock, too, and all I did was make a dock and bottom dock image in photoshop that was transparent and added them to CandyBar.

Or you can do a more complex way: http://itomizer.com/2007/10/31/leopard-transparent-dock/

I recommend using Candybar (although there is another way which I haven't bothered to learn) and just hunt through Deviantart or some other sites for different icons sets.

Deviant art Finder Icons here (http://browse.deviantart.com/?qh=&section=&q=finder+icons)

IconFactory icon sets here (http://iconfactory.com/freeware/icon)

InterfaceLIFT icon sets here (http://interfacelift.com/icons-mac/)

There are more, it's just a case of hunting through this forum and Google :)

So ive seen these all over, but even through searching google.com can't find them as a download anywhere.

Im looking to find where people get the circular neon active dock indicators. here is an example:

if anyone knows where i can download .png files for this because I am using candybar it would be great. feel free to pm me or just drop the link in this thread.

Dock, with my Custom Made 'Label' Wallpaper.

Why? Do you honestly need that to remember what icons represent each piece of software? You would rather have that ugly wallpaper than the millions of other desktops out there? Dont get me wrong to each their own and if you want it set up like that then that is your right. I just dont get it. Why do you want to stare at the names of your apps? I think its really ugly, no offense.

Are you Time Machining to a Linux server with Netatalk/Avahi? (I'm guessing by that sparsebundle on your desktop).

Well in all honesty if you like it, thats all that matters. I just dont get how you would want to look at that over all of the other desktops available. Again to each thier own.

No, I dont use Time machine or Linux for that matter. I just have very large storage requirements and I go in between my computer setup at home and my computer setup at my studio all the time and I have jobs that take up entire hard drives and I cant erase them until I make back ups or delete them when the job is shipped so I use lots of HDs. I have around 18 in total. Think of it as designating a HD for each job I am currently working on.

Use Img2Icns http://www.img2icnsapp.com/ and then it is quite intuitive... (I have the paid version, but the free one I think does most of the features that you want!!)

I have uploaded the icon files to Rapidshare http://rapidshare.com/files/203938744/Icons.sitx.html

So you will have to download and un-stuff them first!!

I attatch some screenshots of the steps!!!
Hope that this was helpful...

Here's a direct link (http://www.leoparddocks.net/download/3dborder.zip) to the download for that dock.

Or if you're leery about clicking direct links you can go to "www.leoparddocks.net" and search for "3D Border" that is the title of the dock. It's my favorite and the one I've used since Leopard first came out! :D

On a separate note, does anyone else think the Parallels 4.0 icon is FUGLY? Seriously, an Alu iMac with two red bars...

After about an hour trying to figure out how to use Candybar (I always assume an app is more complicated then it actually is) I finally got my dock perfect (almost, I hate the way the stacks are just a little taller than anything else...but that's just the OCD in me)

Finder, Firefox, Safari, iTunes, Mail, Adium, Transmission (can someone make a uTorrent icon for me?!?!?!) iPhoto :: Apps Stack, Downloads Stack, Trash.

I downloaded the indicators and they were black, I just adjusted to levels and turned the sharpness all the way down to try and make them seem glowy. I'm happy with it, but I would be happier with the stacks being the same height as everything else, and a uTorrent icon

ScreenSharing is my favorite feature of 10.5, I use it all the time to sync folders between all my Macs :D

Things is also really cool. Like a combo of iCal and Stickies, I use it with larger projects where I could easily get "off-track" a.k.a. procrastination :o

you guys should really look into DockSpaces. (unless you use more than 4 spaces, then functionality is decreased)

you can set up a different dock for each space - however if you're not on the first dock (command+0) then your spaces preferences don't appear in sys prefs (but still work, up to space 4).

if you switch to a space (per say, 5) and you switch docks, you have to switch back to dock #1 to go to a different space. kinda is weird for functionality - but those are just bugs i have encountered

I really don't like spaces... but I have it set up so CMD-(NUMBER) switches the dock... to a different one... I have 10... so well... I kinda over use it :D

Nice find. I just tried it, it's a solid concept. Sadly, I find it has a couple hickups for me. The differentiation by space is nice but it takes a lot of the flow out of switching space as it needs to load up the dock every time. The other is the ram usage, 25mb for holding dock preferences ? iTunes uses 32mb on my computer...

Mind you, I think I'll use by opening and closing to change my dock when I know I'll be doing specific and close it after.

tks mate.

i do most of my app switching/launching with Quicksilver... and weird in my Activity monitor mine is only 6MB.

the biggest bug for me is i have 6 spaces and when you switch to a different dock it switches your preferences to 4. so when you open an app that opens in 6 - it's no where to be found.

Sorry for jumping in when you asked someone else the question, but personally I prefer Plex because of the customisation. Loads of skins, different views for browsing media, it downloads all the movie info (plot, actors, year, rating etc) automatically from IMDB, and TV Show info from TVDB. You can search by actor/actress, check the weather, browse media while still viewing media in a small window in the corner, plugins - 4od, BBC iPlayer, loads of sports and news ones - all intergrated. Lot's of updates, friendly community, and generally easier than FrontRow whist bringing more to the table. You should check it out. It rocks!

ohh, and it plays so many more formats including Video_TS folders, so there's no need to convert your DVDs.

Avi
Apr 18, 2009, 02:36 PM
ah thanks! :) ... I think I'm going to convert to Plex ... as I have few videos (.mp4 h264) and have problems playing them in quicktime and hence in FR ... I just noticed that Plex played them w/o any problem :)

Now I need a good skin :D

MAC-PRO-DEMON
Apr 18, 2009, 02:56 PM
It's slick... and just works a lot easier than Front Row...

It runs all of my videos... without Conversion...

The interface is also cool... because you can skin it...

I just... well... think that it is better :D

If you use candybar you can enable the 2D dock at the bottem, the arrows are from some other dock theme.

My App folder has 165 items+ because of folders... Adobe Master Collection CS4 I have a folder for so..

I can't run many at a time but right now I am running FF, Mail, Adium, Skype, Photoshop, TextEdit, iTunes and GarageBand and there is a little bit of lag but not much.

:D I know. When they switched the name back from Clarisworks, I thought, "How retro."

What can I say? I still like the Drawing and Painting modules -- I have yet to find anything that replaces SuperPaint (and don't say Paintbrush or Seashore, I've tried both of those and found them inadequate). Plus, I still have a lot of old Appleworks files that neither Pages nor Numbers will open.

Hey guys, how do you change JUST the indicator lights? I tried doing it, but it will not let me. The only time they do change, is when an entire new dock set is changed.

Like those icons on the right side of the DOCK... Those little "Boxes"... How does everyone makes their stack icons look like that? I had been trying to find those "boxes" icons...

It is a work in progress. Also does anyone know how to keep the downloads bin/stack icon at the top? Every single time I DL something the stack icon gets pushed further back.

Just change the name of the stack icon. I just name it like AAStack or something so a download goes right behind it (at least that's the case if you organize your finder by name - see the attached picture). It will be pushed back if you have a download that starts with a number but you can fix that by naming it 1AAStack or something similar. Hope I answered your question.

Hey man, they are called Pole Stacks and they are on deviantART here (http://Delta909.deviantart.com/art/PoleStack-102221509). I take it you know how to create a stack so just put the icon (I convert the icon to a folder before putting it there) into the folder you are making a stack out of and name it something like what I said in the previous quote (AAStack 1AAStack) or something like that and then right click on it in your dock (see second attachment) and make sure Stack is selected under Display As. Ta da. Your done.

No problem :D I just mainly use deviantART for getting icons. The icon section of their site is here. (http://www.deviantart.com/#catpath=customization/icons&order=5) They have the best icons and have an IMENSE amount of them. And from time to time I check Pixel Delicioso here.
