Based on my experiences, yes. Some people that I know, have not had luck with a hub.

I have 10.5.6 and I used my powered belkin USB hub to re-jailbreak last week. I had some problems with quickpwn, but I was able to recover using a DFU restore. Everything turned out fine.

That's a good idea.
I'll post after my hub comes in the mail and I give JB'ing the 3G a try.

hey, i really wanna jailbreak my "ipod touch 2g" and i am on a macbook 10.5.6, so i have the DFU problems. and if you have heard of the dev team DFU fix, i tried to do this but when i did i accedential downloaded the 10.5.6 IOUSBfamily thing before the 10.5.5 IOUSBfamily and now it wont work :(
and i even bought a usb HUB for 10$ but that didn't work either, so i started wondering if you can't use a usb hub for ipod touch 2g but only for iphone? is that true or am i completely wrong? a friend of mine has the rockband usb hub, should i borrow his usb hub and give it a try or give up... NEED HELP!?

Just stop right there. You can't jailbreak the 2g iPod Touch yet (at least, not in the same way as the iPhone or 1G Touch).
My hub:
Vendor: Dynex
Model: 4 Port USB 2.0 Hub - DX-HUB23
Powered: No
Purchased at: Bestbuy
It was cheap- $15 I think.

I used this method and it worked like a charm.
Not everybody has success with this though.
