View Full Version : Is this a good HDD for Alum MacBook?

I want to upgrade my HDD to 500GB and was wondering if anybody had experience with this drive:

Is it the right specs for the Aluminum MacBook? Also, any other drives recommend would be great! Thanks.

it will work.

all you had to do is look at the reviews on newegg's page. they would've told you that it works in macbooks and macbook pros, new and old.

newegg users tend to be more tech-savvy, instead of your regular bestbuy shopper. i would trust them. I always start off with the reviews that are the most negative. they give you a "worst case scenario" then i read the positive reviews to see if it is an anomaly.

Folks have been putting that one on and it seems to be good. I've got a Seagate 5400 Momentus 500 gb and it's great. I used Carbon Copy Cloner to clone the old disk, and was very happy with it. It takes a couple of hours.

I read the reviews on the first page and noticed it was 5 stars, I just didn't want to read through tons of reviews. I knew I would get a straightforward answer on here since this is a Mac forum.

Thanks to everyone for helping, I just wasn't sure if the MacBooks were SATA or ATA. Looks like I'll be going with this one.

All MacBooks take 2.5" SATA HDDs with a max thickness of 9.5mm. You could also check out the tech specs page on Apple's website, as well as your System Profiler.

The aluminum macbook with take 12.5mm. I know since I have one in mine.

Get a Seagate. I got a 500GB Seagate one and it's quiet and doesn't click every 30 seconds like the WD 500GB Scoprio Blue one that I had!! :mad:
