I am a mobile DJ and can I just say how sick I am of these songs titles?

If you're writing a song, I don't care what the lyrics are, they can be blocked out for usage. But do not pollute the song title with your "personal expression" that cannot be blocked out.

Last night I had to recant the title of this song to two different teachers at the school dance I did. Not my best moments. I get the eye roll and glare as if I WAS THE ONE who gave it such a horrible name.

This is not creativity, this is not expression, its intentionally OFFENSIVE crap.
Do I find the word "suck" offensive? Of course not. But as long as someone might, its a problem. Period.

Thank you Clarkson you frigin twit.

I second that, some titles seem like they are low brow for the heck of it. Then some seem like they are being vulgar to make a point, a point to be vulgar? I dunno.http://n08q1114fvte161.imageshacknow.info/img/2460/v08w1128rhlb/smile.gif Nothing against Kelly, just not my artist.

Ugh

I don't mind her older stuff but this song just seems like the same old song for her

Not really any different

I guess I have to agree. Why not "Without You" or "My Life" or "My Life Without You"? Throwing in "suck" seems to be for shock value.

Yeah, her first disc was good and it's gone downhill each release since then.

Her 15 minutes of fame are just about over. Sigh.

I'd like the final two minutes with her. But that's probably 1:15 more than I'll need.

I really like this song, it has a great tune to it. I, like others, just don't see why she didn't leave "suck" out of the title.

A) It would make the title shorter.
B) It would make the title more listener-friendly.

But I have to say, I prefer My Life Would Suck Without You to any of her old songs.

I would have to disagree with this.

I suspect she had to say in the title as the song was written and titled before being sent to her (I saw this in a video where record executives were sitting down with the writer and discussing the song). Perhaps you are right about the word "suck" being thrown in for "shock value". Personally, I don't find it offensive and I don't see what's wrong with it.

Her first CD was good, but her 2nd was even better, selling over 10 million copies, which is quite an amazing feat, considering the state the music industry is in right now.
While her 3rd CD was not as commercially successful, I think it would say that her albums haven't gotten progressively worse.

And about her "15 minutes of fame" being over: There are many Kelly Clarkson fans out there and ready to embrace her new music. In fact, her new album is already getting positive reviews from Rolling Stone and various reviewers.
Her new single set a record for the largest jump on the Billboard Hot 100 charts - beating out Britney Spears. In fact, this was the 2nd time she set this record. The last time she did it, the previous record-setters were The Beatles.

In my opinion her best stuff came out shortly after she won the original American Idol. I am not saying that her new stuff is not good, or that I don't like it but I just feel that the music industry often transforms an already great artist in hopes of making them better, with varying success.

I think the offensive word in music is scum, which Maryland lawmakers are trying to get removed from "Maryland, My Maryland."

Don't think they bother with the current music because it would make them pass out. ;)

I highly doubt she wrote that song. It seems like all of the pop music "artists" these days have no creativity, most can't even wright a song. They just take what is given to them and force feed it to people via constant radio play and advertisement in the iTunes store. I suggest if you are looking for a real female singer songwriter you check out Carly Simon, or Carole King. Much better in terms of lyrical quality and musical ability.

She didn't write the song...also why she can't change the title of it.

Also she does write her music.
She wrote Because of You off of her album, Breakaway and also wrote her latest hit with Ryan Tedder called Already Gone.
She's a phenomenal singer and songwriter. Don't be so quick to write her off. ;)

You joined in 2007 and this is one of your eight posts?!?

Anyway, why didn't she just name the song one of the suggested alternatives, or another one such as 'Cause We Belong? Much quicker to say and remember and much less offensive (to some people).

*sigh* Really? Something so literal and half baked as "my life would suck without you?" That hardly sounds like informal conversation let alone a damn song!

That's the world we live in, today. Something so simple and...stupid as "I kissed a girl, and I liked it" can become so hyped as to take over the airwaves for weeks at a time. I swear to you, these songs sound like something a group of 11-year-old girls would write at a slumber party playing with their daddy's karaoke machine, yet no matter the lack of effort and talent you people will lap it up like leaches. If it's in the mass media you'll rush out with fistfuls of dollars before you, ready to BUY BUY BUY!!!
It's no wonder iPods with such incredible capacities exist! The oafs have ZERO inhibitions, five seconds after they hear it on the radio it's downloaded and sync'd to their iPods. That's the way it works. If it's on the air, you MUST have it and you MUST like it...

And let us not begin on the out-dated practice of metaphors. If a song isn't 100% literal the target audience is left scratching their bums trying to figure it out, NO, they put forth zero effort to figure it out even!

I mean something so apparently lametastic as "who's bed have your boots been under" is an effective utilization of such, hell I'd appreciate hearing something THAT thought out on the radio today, instead we have "I'm gawna myiss ewe like a choul myisses therr blane kit" from a man faced moaning shower singer.

That's it, every "artist" today is nothing more than a shower singer made public by record companies ready to rake in the commercialized dough.

Look at "Lady" gawgaw. She likes to march around making all these claims in her songs, stating the paparazzi is mobbing her and everybody wants her...WHO THE EXPLETIVE ARE YOU?! You're imagining things you David Bowie wunnabe shemale!
This reminds me of Mike Jones' debut song, wherein he states his success has drawn former rivals to pursue a friendship with him. Where is he now?! Who even remembers him?!
At least when Montell Jordan stated "I'll never come whack on an old school track" he did so in such a memorable song that it actually appears on MANY mix albums! Anybody around in the early 90's must still recall the memorable first line in all it's anticipation-onsetting glory. All together now, "THIS is how we dooo it!" "it's Friday night, and I feel alright, the party's here on the west side"

What I would give to live to see another Michael Jackson, another James Brown or even, in my desperation, another Elvis! But considering this is a world where 70% of Americans will point to that island in the southern hemisphere when asked to locate Austria on a globe and a man was elected into office because of the color of his skin by kids that could not so much as name ONE of the three branches of The Federal Government, there is no hope for us few remaining...us few meaning me and Bl00dblitz on youtube...the last with a mind to out-flank the manipulation of the media, unlike the rest of you sheep.

Only in my dreams will I ever tune a radio in and hear new material from a person prided on their art and not a "use and dispose" tool of the music INDUSTRY!

"Weary, tell me will you hold me, when wrong will you scold me, when lost will you find me? But they told me, a man should be faithful, and walk when not able, and fight to the end but I'm only human!" -Michael Jackson, Will you be there

"I did you wrong, my heart went out to play, but in the game I lost you, what a price to pay...., and I'm crying." "I'm just about at the end of my rope, but I can't stop trying, I can't give up hope, 'cause I feel one day I'll hold you near, whisper I still love you. Until that day is here..., I'm crying"
-Smokey Robinson & The Miracles, Ooo baby baby

"Sunshine blue skies, please go away. My girl done found another, and gone away. With her went my future, my life is filled with gloom, so day after day, I stay locked up in my room. I know to you, it might sound strange, but I wish it would rain." "Day in day out, my tear stained face, pressed against the window pain. My eyes searching the skies, desperately for rain, 'cause, raindrops will hide my tear drops, and no one will ever know that I'm crying, when I go outside." -The Temptations, I Wish it Would Rain

as compared to the mind-numbing...

"Tonight's the night!! Let's live it up!! Lyke owe miy gawd!! Fill up my cup, JRANK!! I sound so gangster!! When I say jrank!! Grammar's for suckas!! Dee dee, DEE DEE DEE!!" -some ethnic characters and a Big Ronda shemale Lisa Lisa wunnabe.

Now if only people who were so logical had a name, I wouldn't have to explain this all the time. All I know is when my people have a name I'm buying more advocate bumper stickers than a fishing, hunting, drinking, wife-submissifying redneck at a muddin' tailgate party.

I don't think they care for the better side of top 40 music.
They just want to write off the song that went #1 for how many ever weeks so they can easily sum up the current state of music.

ETA: Nice song choice. Snow Patrol is pretty good.

I'm a little confused. You rant about wanting a real artist, but then quote made artists like Michael Jackson and Smokey Robinson. Also, you rail against modern artists. Yet, people like Elvis Presley were dismissed back when they first started.
When rock 'n' roll first started, people ranted just like you. They bemoaned the lack of artistry and said this was the downfall of music. It turns out that music survived and, in fact, diversified music.
I'm not saying all of today's artists are going to last longer than the 15 minutes allotted to them. However, some of these artists are possibly better than you think. Only time will tell.

I really like this song, it has a great tune to it. I, like others, just don't see why she didn't leave "suck" out of the title.

Over 20 years ago, me and my friends used "suck". Whether it was to say cafeteria food, homework or the other football team sucked, it had an entirely different meaning for us. Of course, we were in our early teens. It's probably the same way for any kid, until they get old enough to understand the double entendre.
Personally, I use the word both ways.

Actually, I never heard "My Life Would Suck . . ." until I heard it on Glee. That's mainly because I don't listen to the radio. Too many commercials.

I thought you knew they got their start at Motown? Motown isn't much different than today's record labels, that churn out today's pop stars. The difference is that Jackson and Robinson rose above the limited roles their label gave them.

On the subject, I think it's interesting that the people who wrote "Since You've Been Gone" also wrote this song. Kelly Clarkson seems to do well singing this style of music.

MrCheeto
Dec 28, 2009, 10:40 PM
Of course Motown stacked the cards to their favor, but Michael was anything but made, all he needed was an introduction to the public and his personality and talent did the rest. Today they force artists on the public. They create the illusion of a phenomenon.

When the Jackson 5 appeared on TV every girl across America wet their self and went crazy. Today, they shove Gaw Gaw on the air every minute of the day so that it sounds like somebody actually WANTS to hear that noise.

Hell, one of the most lucrative careers in music is writing 500 generic songs and putting them up for bid, then a producer can rack up as many as they like and pass them out to any of his hens he chooses.

WHAT THE BUCK????

Why are so many people being bugged by suck? Seriously? I think this song could actually use a lyric change to "my life would ********** suck without you!" The only word people use more than "suck" is "gay" (which I honestly find just plain arrogant)

So why are people being bugged by "suck" so much?

Also saw this on Glee, went in my "Uber-Gay Music" playlist right after Single Ladies.

Like most of the music today. Especially the younger bands.. its all teeny bop. I plain just hate this song. Its not wonder my friends in school are limited. I hate most of the new music out today and they blow bubble gum and drool over the freaking Jonas Brothers >.<

Seriously, 90s music ftw. The only new bands I can stand have been around for a while at least.. examples being Muse and Coldplay. Pop is just lame these days.
