I need help with Mail, if someone sends me a file attachment like a song or something, and it's arrived to the server, I click "get mail" and it begins "retrieving mail" if there is a file attached, it keeps retrieving for a while, basically it downloads the file as it is retrieving the email. So I have to wait.
What I wanna be able to do is, some how only have the subject downloaded, thus saving time, and then when I double click the subject, it downloads the e-mail so I can view it (for example the e-mail saying: "this is a picture of a car" I may not be interested), then after I read the e-mail, I can decide whether or not I wanna download the attached file.
Please tell me that can be done

Try setting the "Prompt Me To Skip Messages over [ ] Kb" in Mail Prefs -> Accounts -> Advanced.

easy fix,
/prefereces/Accounts/
select the account
in advanced,
where it says
"prompt me to skip messages over [ ]KB"
you type in maybe 20k.
that way you don't have to deal with downloading attachment till you browse what you received.
very convenient for dial up modem users.
good luck

that is basically what most e-mail do.

Try using webmail. many ISPs provide it directly. mailtoweb.com also provides it. You can view your mail via the WWW.

If you go under view in the mail app preferences, there is the check for display images and embedded texted, but I still think it downloads the image with the text, this just takes it out.
