hey guys...

im just wondering if there's a way i can modify the 2.0 that appears on the "About this MAC" and also when i click the "more info..." button...

reason: i have a snobby sister who got her self a 2.4 version and i just want her thinking i also have a 2.4 version

TRUST ME SHE DOESNT NEED THE BACK-LIT lights... as i've turned them off on her macbook (n she hasnt noticed since)

so in short

I NEED TO *SPOOF* or *MODIFY THE SYSTEM PROFILER* to make it look as if i have a 2.4 GHz processor rather then 2.0

let me know if its possible and if so a very detailed and a noob-oriented guide...
thx

thanks

It probably can be done. But necessary? This is like rolling back the odometer on a car.

Children, play nice.

So you think what you're doing is funny? I don't.

Since this has application beyond the joke (!) being played, i.e. allowing people selling computers to up the specs fraudulently, and given that this is a public internet forum that anyone has access to, I'd recommend that people don't offer advice on this one.

I second that.

Seriously, modifying the system profile to "trick" your sister? Get over yourself. Unless you grow up to be the next Bill Gates, there's always going to be someone with nicer stuff than you.

That is so funny, and true!

Working within the story, it sounds like you're planning on switching her computer without her knowledge. Although, honestly it sounds like a weak story, and I smell something suspicious....

never asked for your opinion on whether or not this was funny or not

Whether or not you're trying to pull a fast one on some unsuspecting buyer, or simply trying to play a joke on a sibling doesn't matter. The point is, this is a public forum, meaning anything posted could be seen and used by someone with less appreciable goals to scam a buyer.

Therefore, I doubt you'll find any help here. You can post asking for help with the best of intentions, but the potential for negative fallout means you're unlikely to get it.

take her computer and smash it on the ground! that'll show her for trying to one-up you! Or trade your MB for the low end MBP, and then you'll be one-upping her. ;)

Hey guys,

You guys suck. The poor man is just trying to be the dominant brother in the household. He's sincerely trying to do something clever while you morons are being all purposely unhelpful. I personally know this person and regard him in the highest standard.

In the end, we spoofed the system profiler and it was a huge laugh when his sister found out that his macbook was running a 4.0ghz Core 2 Duo and 16gigs of ram.

Shame on all of you with your unhelpful and somewhat derogatory posts. You could've PMed him the solution.

I guess the internet does that to people.

Yak yak yak

1/10...the one point is for the ridiculous system specs.

To darshan: get over yourself. Your sister bought a nicer computer than you. Who cares? She has a backlit keyboard. Clearly you didn't think you'd need one, because you didn't pay the extra money to get a computer with one equipped. You only want one because she has it. Turn her backlighting back on, turn your mouth off, and grow up.

How about getting a screen shot of hers (with "about this mac" opened) and load the pic on yours?
I still play jokes on my sister and my brother, it's all in fun. My brother and I always joke who has the better truck.

Well, I don't see how that makes them that.

Be careful, not only with the AppleSystemInfo strings but with how you address individuals. This is not the 90's anymore.
