I want to play Warcraft III but I just hate to use the mouse to scroll the map and I'd prefer using keys. Now, using arrow keys for me is frustating because they are too near to the mouse and it's difficult to press the tab key for moving inside subgroups. Do you know if and how I can activate WASD keys to do this???

Warcraft has no options to enable this, however I think you'll have two options that may help.
1) A program like USBOverdrive or Steermouse may be able to assign a button on your mouse to the Tab key to use instead.
2) Find a keyboard remapping program to swap your keyboard layout around. May cause issues when typing messages though.

You may also like to try suggesting the idea to Blizzard if you like. You can do so here

Another option for scrolling is to use the middle mouse button -- given your mouse has one. You can press and drag the screen around this way. It's more accurate than the keyboards and doesn't require as much screen movement as the horrid side method.

If you're used to graphic programs and panning images holding down the space as an example, it's pretty much the same. I always set my thumb button as my middle click.

I have a program called ControllerMate, which allows me to reassign the keys on any HID device. You can reprogram mice and keyboards with it.

I have a might mouse. Will try your suggestions later.
