So I was given an old iMac a couple of days ago (tray-loading iMac G3 running OS 9.2). I played around with OS9 for a while, but quickly got frustrated at the lack of a command line, so I decided to install NetBSD on it. The install process seems fairly straightforward, the only problem being that I can't get into Open Firmware.

What I've done is hit CMD+OPTION+O+F during the bootup chime - nothing. I've tried many different variations on this, trying at many points during the bootup process.

According to what I've read online, all of the iMacs have Open Firmware 3+ - is this right?

I've Googled to no avail.

Does anyone have any ideas? Many thanks in advance.

you should be able to determine what model iMac you have.

i think that's the first step in getting a solution to your question :)

Okay, all I'm able to tell from Wikipedia is that it's a tray-loading G3. I'm not sure about the revision as I can't figure out how to find the processor speed or any of the other specs.
