Red Dwarf voyages back to Earth (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/7851989.stm)
The show has been resurrected by digital channel Dave for a two-part Easter weekend special, which sees the cast finally return to Earth.
The new two-part series Red Dwarf: Back to Earth will be followed by a "no holds barred" episode without sets, special effects or autocue.
The weekend will climax with Red Dwarf: the Making of Back to Earth, a behind-the-scenes special from the new episodes.

Interesting...I just recently got my hands on a complete DVD set of Red Dwarf and watched them all with my roommates. Funny!
Let's see how this turns out...

Brilliant! But "without sets, special effects or autocue." I don't get this. Is it just cost cutting. Will have to see...

It sounds like one of the special features on the latest box set of Family Guy. Instead of playing the episode, they (the cast) actually do a sit down read of the entire script, live and in character. That may be what they are doing here, just described badly.

I took that to mean them going back to Earth but it being present day, so they don't need a set as such. And it's them adjusting to it all.
Rimmer could get a job at the Whitbury Leisure Centre, Kryton could work at a scrap metal yard, Lister could move to Manchester and start up a taxi firm and the Cat could become leader of a bunch of spies.
Just a thought.

I'd like for it to be good, but I suspect it may not be....just too many years in between the last episode and this.
I hope I'm wrong, of course.

I'd like for it to be good, but I suspect it may not be...You and me both. I much prefer the earlier episodes, I think things lost their way as the series went on. As such, I'm a little concerned about these new episodes...
