I'm using an epson stylus 680, and it works just fine under OS X.
Was your printer working under 10.1.x? I assume not from the gist of your post. Which model do you have?

I have a sylus 580 and epson has never supported it and I thought by now it would have worked
can you use different drivers for it like a 680 driver with a 580

I wouldn't have thought so. You've got nothing to lose by trying though :)

yea.. a lot of printers arent up and working with jaguar because apple has implemented cups - a unix printing system into 10.2... i personally got my hp working, but only with a "general" driver without individual printer support...

Yea, neither my epson C60, nor my Lexmark Z45 will work with X.2. I hope they don't have to rewrite the drivers again due to CUPS. That will mean that we will get to print again, about a year after x.2 is released.

if your printer center has a problem to recognise your driver try this:
first check if your printer utility works on your printer. (does it do the checks on your printer)
if it does, it means your driver is there and should work. But the problem
lays in OSX.
so try this link
http://www.versiontracker.com/moreinfo.fcgi?id=14641&db=mac
I had problems and others too and this link solved it.
After removing the "Canon Folder" my problem was solved.
But if your printer does not have a driver for OSX there is no help as far as I know.
BTW Epson Stylus Color 580 is supported with a driver for OSX

ooops....sorry
that one was for mac OS but not OSX
you may have a problem to get a driver for OSX with your 580
looks like they are only adding drivers for relatively newer printers

Well, I am happy to say that Epson just released an OS X driver for my printer.. and it works just great!
I don't know about the American Epson site, but the Japanese one has a list of Drivers which work under Classic. It doesn't have the American names of the printers so I don't think that would help you, but if the American site has it, just look under Mac.
And your printer *might* have a driver now... they just updated the Japanese site a few weeks ago with the driver for my printer...

I would have been amazed if your printer worked under a developer build of an OS.
Wait for Jaguar to ship before you write off using your printer in X.

epson really needs to pick it up
I've got OS X drivers for my printer, but they don't offer any of the color control options that the OS 9 drivers have. pointless printing in OSX without that if you ask me...

Which printer are you talking about??? I can customize my color settings as much as I want with my C80 drivers. All you need to do is select the 'Color Management' item from the print menu. You have enough options there to do just about anything you want. There are other options as well. Do a little digging, and you should have something similar, unless you are using an old printer, with old drivers, in which case UPDATE them...

Maybe you should wait to b*tch until 10.2 is actually released... You are using a pre-release version of the OS, which I am NOT surprised that not all devices have drivers for. Once 10.2 (or whatever the next OS X version is called) is released, check and see what Epson does for drivers. Better still, call them up and ask them about it. Chances are, if you are nice enough, they will provide you with drivers that are not being released yet (if they have them) for you to test out.
