Will Classic always exsist even if I remove OS9? Or does Classic under X stop working?

You need the OS 9 system folder

No. Whilst you don't need OS 9 in order to run OS X, you will still need the OS 9 system folder installed on your machine if you want to use Classic in OS X.

Since many applications have not been Carbonised yet, most users will still need Classic, and therefore OS 9, for some time yet.

The Classic application still launches even if you don't have OS9 installed. Of course...then it complains about how it doesn't have an OS9 system folder.

I deleted the last vestiges of OS9 two months ago. Every now and then a double-click launches Classic....

OK - so there are two questions here...

"Does Classic still exist" - yes
"Does Classic under X stop working" - yes, it needs an OS 9 system folder
