I am new to Mac first mac was in 2007 a Imac now I purchased a White Macbook. What I would like to do is add a 20" to 24" monitor to it willing to pay up to 300.00 but I have no Idea what look for. Just want to make sure I do not order wrong monitor. It will be used for surfing and Lightroom just getting to photos.

Well for around $300 you can get a rather nice 20" or a kind of regular 24".

Since you said photos, I would assume accurate color is important? If so you may want to look into getting a nice 20" monitor; something like a Dell 2007WFP will do; it's an older model, but at least they had them with better panels. If you want a 24" with a good panel, then you are looking at $400 or so in prices.
