Dev Team Blog says the 2.2.1 Pwnage Tool is out (2.2.5), but it seems to be only for Macs? If so, how long will it be typically before us PC users can pwn our phones? Hours, days, weeks?

I'd say a few days. :)

No PwnageTool for Windows. :( And I don't think there will be.

There is WinPwn, the equivalent of QuickPwn, which they've yet to make/give us the BitTorrent files for. :( God I hate Windows!!

Edit: Where's LinPwn? :p:p:p

Sorry, there is a WinPwn out! However, it is the un-official version (see here (http://www.quickpwn.com/2009/01/jailbreak-firmware-2-2-1.html)) I will be waiting for the Official one, and I'll also be using whatever link the Dev Team provide ;)

Yay http://www.quickpwn.com/ :p

It's official and out but doesn't preserve the baseband. Have us Windows users been forgotten? No hope?

You're welcome to come over and use one of my Macs here in the San Francisco Bay Area...:p

I still don't understand why, for example, you couldn't create an .ipsw and host it on Rapidshare or something.

Yup, I'm stumped by that as well. Maybe in the immediate future, like a day or two...

because people moight want different settings (custom boot images, unlocks, different models, cydia/installer)

because people moight want different settings (custom boot images, unlocks, different models, cydia/installer)

Different modes?

It would seem to me like most people want stock boot images, unlocks n/a (3G), Cydia only, and preserved baseband of course. But even if there had to be more than 1, wouldn't it still be pretty easy to host it? Do you think they're already there and I only need to torrent 'em or something?

Would anyone with a Mac be willing to make a file for us and host it? Is it a lot of trouble to do?

Has anyone here pnwed their iPhone on a mac yet and been successful using PDAnet on 2.2.1?

Wow... That was pretty off-topic.

I'm seeing plenty of downloads and torrents for firmwares, but none for jailbroken 2.2.1. I guess we're stuck unless someone decides to host it for us.

eehhh, I dont understand, I download the quickpwn 2.2.5 from the link that is on the first TOPIC of this forum > "Poll: New to the iPhone World? Facts & FAQS for 1.0.0 to 2.2.1" < , as I understand that its for windows, it even opens on my windows machine...

so thats not what im going to use to jailbreak my iPhone 3g on 2.2.1 firmware!??

I download that yesterday, but havent used it yet...

I'll try to make a custom firmware for 2.2.1 with my iMac and see how it goes. If it works, I'll host it somewhere and post a link here. :) Right now I will make it with only Cydia (Installer isn't available) and no custom logos. If anyone wants the custom logos, post here. When I do post it, can someone please try it and post here with their results because I don't jailbreak. But I have in the past, so I know how to.

EDIT: At the end, after building the firmware, does it make a difference in the actual file whether you have jailbroken before? It asks me that but it already built the file so I think it doesn't make a difference.

Thanks man. I'll be the jailbreak hamster once it's hosted (as long as it won't update the baseband). I think the jailbreak question is for DFU instructions.

Once again thank you very much.

I used the 2.2.5 Quikpwn using my PC (hadn't seen this thread, or ... ).

I'm stuck in a perpetual Apple logo screen. Any ideas?

I tried Restore thru iTunes but got a message that "something has changed" or something similar. How can I just get use of the iPhone back? Any ideas welcomed...!

Using it right now, re-downloaded it last night, works fine.

UPDATE: I am now uploading the file but it is taking a while. Thanks for volunteering, KidneyMerchant. This is a dumb question, but how do you make sure it doesn't update the baseband?

If you used advanced mode there is a tick box to update (or not)

I don't know what simple mode does

I found the check box that says "Enable baseband update" but it is grayed out. Is that a good thing or a bad thing? What am I supposed to do?

Here it is! (http://www.filesavr.com/iphone122215h11customrestore) I did not make this but instead found it from another site that is linked below because I sould not figure out how to preserve the baseband from 2.2. This is 2.21 for the iPhone 3G with Cydia and Installer but no boot logos and preserving the baseband from 2.2. Enjoy!

Thanks, I'll try it out. If I don't want Installer can I fully remove it by removing the folder or do I need to do something else?

If someone tries it out before I do please post your experiences!

Edit: Would someone care to explain this part:
Since you’ve previously pwned your iPhone before, QuickPwn isn’t necessary for you and you won’t need to wait for QuickPwn Windows to be release. If it hasn’t been pwned before, then you’re out of luck and you’ll need to wait.

I thought I would lose all my data; does this change anything?

The above download does work. I'm on JB 2.2.1 with 2.28 baseband. You must have a JB'ed phone before restoring using the above linked .ipsw file, or else it will hang on preparing the phone for restore. I started from a clean 2.2 JB so I cannot say if it removes your files or not but it probably does.

Good luck Windows users, thanks to everyone who contributed!

i'm running 2.2 on the iphone 3g. I will be using pwnage to create a custom firmware. i have both firmwares downloaded 2.2 and 2.2.1. If i use 2.2.1 in pwnage will it automatically compile the firmware with the 2.2 baseband? or will it just jailbreak it but keep the new unlockable baseband?

just to restate will the latest pwnage tool 2.2.5 automatically remove the new baseband from firmware 2.2.1? or will i have to do something else in pwnage tool or elsewhere?

This is the only bit of info i'm not sure about with the whole process. I think i read as much as i need to.

I posted this on another thread earlier today. sorry for reposting but i'm hoping for a response asap. I'm so eager to jailbreak.

thanks for any help
