But it doesnt have a working battery. Is it hard to replace the battery? Also how much would a battery cost?

After all the iPods and Apple products you have posted in your signature? Why want a 1st Gen iPod? If you just want it as a souvenir, don't use it.

Yes, that does seem to be a waste of time and money to me too.

By the way what is the best iPod to get?? There seem to be so many choices---6 generations by now.

They are simple to replace. I still use my 2nd Gen iPod and have replaced the battery in it. To see it being done, go to http://www.macsales.com, click on the iPod tab, and they have QT videos showing how to replace the batteries in all the models. You can order the battery from them too....

It really depends on who you are. And the past two generations are the only ones really worth buying right now since all the others are way dated.
