iPod Touch Flashing Pink and Yellow Lines

I was curious if anyone knew of this issue that has been happening to a friend of mine's iPod touch. It keeps flashing pink and yellow lines. Do any of you know what he can do?

This happened to me once, all I did was go to iTunes and back up my files and resored it. It was really simple but, my friend had this and had to do this twice. So tell your friend to just back it up and restore, also if it is jailbroken, then he will obviously have to do that again.
