View Full Version : Cydia is hazardous...

Lately it has given me the urge to drop kick my phone. Especially after this latest update. Not only does it crash frequently, it now decides it needs to reload data while I'm browsing through packages, after every download, and even after simply viewing a preview of a theme/package.

Anybody else find this a bit annoying?

I have noticed a few bugs lately. I have had my iphone for 6 months and my springboard crashed yesterday. I think it was FCSB. But i wouldnt trade my JB iphone 3g for anything.

Sounds good.

OR other members can post if they have similar problems so I know whether or not I need to reinstall/rejailbreak.

Imagine that. Using a forum to get advice from people with a similar product who may have related issues.

Go somewhere else, troll.

Yeah you really shouldn't whine about the people bringing you Cydia they are doing it for free, and are forgoing some of the profits that could be made in the App Store. I am not saying for Cydia but the ones behind it are clearly more then capable developers who could make this phone do whatever they want it too....
On the issues from though nothing out of the ordinary I would say it has been working fine for me... I'd say best bets are always a reinstall.

That's all well and good but go ahead and quote my first post and highlight where I complained about the people bringing us Cydia. PLEASE.

Mine is constantly 'reloading data', but not as much crashes. Probably because I reinstalled it though ;)

No problems here. No crashes ever and it'll only reload data when I first open it.

I appreciate the contributions. Seems a reinstall/restore is in order.

Sounds like it. It loads, then reloads for me after opening it, then everything is fine...

It's never crashed for me, but I'll agree with you that the "reloading data" after every little action is quite annoying and seems unnecessary. However, on the plus side, the "Changes" refresh seems to take a significantly less amount of time, but that could probably be because Cydia automatically refreshes after every package install, search, or "More Info."

I don't think your phone has any problems, saurik is probably just experimenting with some ways to make Cydia better. It'll all be fixed sooner or later.

Oh really? I must have mistaken you for the troll whining about a free software that enables free 3rd party applications on the iPhone.

Let me know when a beta of your app comes out, ill try it for you.

I don't think they are doing it for free; there is at least one ad on nearly every page.

I think Cydia is getting more bloated and slower, but Cydia still rocks. It surely beats not having it though and so, is worth it.

I guess there's always apt-get... :D

Wow - 19 posts and still nobody has offered a rather simple possible solution:

1. Uninstall Cydia

2. Reinstall Cydia

This has worked for many people - as indicated in other threads; it might even work for you. ;)

How exactly do you uninstall and reinstall cydia? I just JB and unlocked my 2g iphone but Cydia is missing. I already selected it in QuickPWN but it did not reappear.

I would try to re jailbreak and setup as new phone instead of restoring from a backup.

I've tried both of these and the outcome is the same as before. If I knew the purpose of the automatic reloads (downloading new apps in realtime, perhaps?) I would probably be okay with this. Problem is I don't see any difference from the last version where I didn't have to wait 30+ seconds after looking at a screenshot.

Why am I ripping him? Simple...

"Cydia is Hazardous".. Most ridiculous accusation of a piece of software I have ever seen. This entire post is complete BS. All he had to do was google his answer instead of coming here claiming that Cydia is harmful to your phone.

Lets see how we could have changed this:

Cydia instability?

Cydia crashing?

Help with Cydia?

See how easy that is? Insulting a 3rd party programmer who brings you thousands of downloads daily, is just asinine. If I came off a little harsh, sorry. Your thread started off a little harsh towards the programmer.

This thread is...a lot more complicated than it needs to be.

That said, the only time I get the "Reloading Data" message is when I initially start Cydia, normally right after it has loaded the home page. After that, I don't see the message again until the next time I open up Cydia, and again it only shows up right after loading the home page.

If you're constantly getting the "Reloading Data" message during simple things like scrolling, browsing, etc. then I would say something's up and that you should reinstall Cydia, and maybe shoot an email off to Saurik about it detailing what your Cydia is doing along with what apps you have installed, etc.
