Wow, the don't have the slightest idea as to what they're talking about.
This is a theory I have that works with iPhones as well as multiple other devices such as computes, the iPhone is about as smart as the person using it.

Your threads are interesting to say the least. At least a couple involve dropping the iPhone in the toilet, one says that iPhones ruin marriages, and then this one that says cheerleaders hate iPhones.
Do you have some repressed anger towards Apple products?

I wouldn't call it anger, but they're just nothing I'd ever buy. I've been using PC's (Windows) all my life, and have no desire to learn a new system. Also, I'm completely satisfied with both my MP3 player and my cell phone. I can personally live without Apple products, and I would hate to waste my money or see anyone else waste theirs when they can buy products with other brands that do the same things for a lot cheaper. Nothing against them or anyone who already owns them, but just my opinion.

Based on that post I'm a bit confused as to why you're here.
And it seems that you know very little about Apple products and why people choose them over the generic PC/phone/media player despite the higher price.

My thoughts EXACTLY.
You just randomly select a forum to go into and bash people products? Ridiculous.
And if you've been using Windows all your life, you wouldn't have to "learn" anything, except how to accept the fact you've been using a less powerful, less secure, and more complicated operating system all your life.

If you don't see what the hype is about, do yourself a favor and go get an iPhone. Use it for a couple days. If you don't like it you can return it and pay a small restocking fee. What have you got to lose?
I'm confident you wouldn't return it.
I have a lot of friends who don't have iPhones that can't understand why I use mine so often. I also have a lot of friends who do have them and have the same usage behaviors as I do. It's obvious you should use it before you judge it.

Wow, there are forums for everything! But, the problem with what they're saying (and yes, I want that minute of my life back too) is that not one has commented on the actual functionality of the phone. Batteries are going to die, thats a fact. Yeah, it is a PITA to swap an iPhone battery, but my wife's 1st gen iPhone that is over a year old still holds a charge just fine.
Bottom line is the absolute ease of use this phone gives the user. No menus to go into just to get certain apps, no hard to navigate menus or screens and seemingly endless apps for the phone. Will there be another phone out there that might do more, like picture messaging? Sure, but will that same phone work as seamlessly as the iPhone, I would bet against that.
Seriously though, just go to an apple or at&t store and just play with one. What better way to form your own opinion that using the device for yourself.

Thanks for the name compliment. :) It rhymes with Sierra in case you're wondering about pronounciation...
I actually got an ipod for Christmas in 2005, never used it much, and finally sold it on ebay a couple years ago. I was completely satisfied with the MP3 player I was using, and I was so afraid of losing an expensive music player if I took it on campus with me. So thats why I'm hesitant on the iphone.

Funny. That's when I got my first iPod. Still have it in my car to this day.
So unless you got a refurb, you had the iPod photo (color screen, no video playback). Trust me. There's no comparison between the two products. They're both Apple and that's about as far as it goes.
Plus an iPod doesn't retrieve email, place calls or browse the internet.

I know the iphone does those things... but so does my computer (email and internet). I'm sure to do that on my iphone, it would cost extra money for the services, on top of the expensive AT&T service and iphone. I figure, why spend money to spend money? I guess the main thing about me is that I'm a very frugal person, and I try to look for reasons NOT to buy a product. If I can't come up with any, then I buy it.

This is true. I guess it's a matter of preference. I'd prefer to get my emails throughout the day and not have to sit down and read at night. And if something comes up where I can't remember something or how somebody looks (happened just yesterday when I was listening to the radio), I can pull it out of my pocket and solve it right there. I'm not going to praise the iPod portion because I rarely use it but there's many things the iPhone has that benefit you when you're not around a computer.

I hate reading forums with users that claim they know everything about the iPhone, when really they could not tell the difference between the POS Samsung Instinct's touch screen and the iPhone's. It just makes me feel almost frustrated...
And that's the beauty of the iPhone. I no longer carry a BB Pearl and an iPod Touch or before then - iPod Video. It's now all just in one devise, that does everything better than I could ever have hoped.

So... the only thing you ever buy is food and toilet paper? I mean, you already have clothes, so no need to buy any more; you can walk instead of buying a car and having to keep buying gas... that's seriously your argument against buying an iPod or iPhone?
Why'd you buy an MP3 player at all?

No, I'm saying that if she actually feels that way, she doesn't NEED an MP3 player at all. She's just trying to bash Apple products, and doing it badly.
If she had a good argument, I'd simply have read and then ignored this thread.

Not indirectly, however she has appeared to try and outline every possible flaw of the product just because she thinks she doesn't need it which is a bit unfair.
Saying you don't NEED a new mac or ipod or phone is completely reasonable however. Minus all the indirect bashing.
Now Leaira. Apple products are products that are designed to be easy to use and beautiful at the start. And thats what the hype is about. My dad has an iPhone, and I have a cheaper more feature full Japanese cell phone but his iPhone is what draws the looks. Why? Well it looks better. AND its so easy to use. No learning curve.
The mac is the same way. The design stands out, its easy to use (just takes about a week of training), and lets you do creative stuff easily. Thats the hype.
Don't believe it? Go to the apple store. Go ask the guy to show you iLife and iWork. Play with an iPhone. Have fun.
If you still don't like, well OK> I have friends who don't like mac because the design is TOO minimalist and they want hardcore gaming rigs with flashy lights etc. They don't bash it for the sake of bashing it.
I have friends who don't like iPhone because they just prefer physical keyboards, but they don't go and say it ruins marriages.
